Whether you first fell for Mario Lopez back in the 90s when he starred in Saved By the Bell, have seen him shine on one of his various television hosting gigs, or, more recently, have seen him charm audiences on the Great American Family channel, the 52-year-old actor has been putting a smile on our faces for decades. With his latest film on the network having aired earlier this holiday season, allow us to take a look at his GAF career thus far—there’s a little bit of family flair that makes his films on the cozy network a little extra special!

Mario Lopez first shines in ‘Once Upon a Christmas Wish’

It was in 2024 when Mario Lopez made his GAF debut, and the sweet holiday flick, Once Upon a Christmas Wish, was pure holiday magic! Lopez brought to life the character of Mayor Brian Ortega, a man who leads his community of Long Grove and finds his childhood Christmas list while decorating for the holidays. When the wishes on his list start coming true, Brian rediscovers the holiday magic of his youth. All the while, a childhood friend from his past, Nina, enters his life once again and soon enough, sparks fly.

Playing the part of Nina, however, was none other than Mario’s wife, Courtney Lopez. Additionally, their son Dominic joined the cast as well! Working alongside his family on his first GAF film was nothing short of spectacular, and it was an experience Lopez cherished deeply. “I really wanted my family to be involved in my first film for Great American Family,” Mario told Great American Journal. “So, my wife, who’s wildly talented, sings, dances, acts [in this film] beautifully [as well as] my son, Dominic, who also sings, dances and acts. I was honored to have them be in the film with me. This is a very special project, and it’s come together great. And I’m very proud of them.”

In November of this year, Mario Lopez’s second film for Great American Family premiered. In The Christmas Spark, Lopez stars as a corporate lawyer who makes a career shift by joining the fire department in his town. Upon joining, he finds himself up against a young, rising firefighter whose father was a heroic firefighter himself. Soon enough, his heart is taken by the young firefighter’s widowed mother, complicating things further.

Another film in Mario Lopez’s GAF lineup was the recent premiere of Mario Lopez Presents: Chasing Christmas. Lopez serves as producer of this festive flick about an artist, Mia, and a morning show host, Michael, who team up with their children to make one child’s angel tree wish come true—and portraying Mia’s son is none other than Dominic Lopez, Mario’s son! “When I would watch his movies and I would just see him on the big screen, I thought it was really cool,” Dominic told Great American Family when explaining how his dad inspired him.
