‘Married . . . With Children’ Real-Life Cast Couples Revealed—See Who They Ended Up With Offscreen!
‘Love and marriage, love and marriage’ . . . check in with the love lives of Al, Peg, Kelly and Bud
The long-running sitcom Married . . . With Children became one of the most iconic shows of the ’80s and ’90s thanks to the surprisingly dark yet hilarious approach it took to working-class family life. Married couple Al and Peg Bundy were constantly at odds with one another, while their kids, Kelly and Bud, caused plenty of domestic chaos of their own.
The show, which ran from 1987 to 1997, resonated with viewers precisely because of its caustic look at the nuclear family, but offscreen all the Bundys have happy families of their own. Read on for a look at who Ed O’Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate and David Faustino ended up with offscreen.
Ed O’Neill (Al Bundy)
While Al Bundy may have been the archetypal loutish husband who constantly complains about his wife, Ed O’Neill has been happily married to actress Catherine Rusoff since 1986, the year before Married . . . With Children debuted.

Rusoff appeared on her husband’s hit show twice, playing two different characters. In 1988, she played half of a married couple competing against the Bundys on a game show. She then played a pregnant woman in a feminist organization led by the Bundys’ neighbor in a 1992 episode.
O’Neill and Rusoff have two daughters, Sophia and Claire.

Katey Sagal (Peg Bundy)
The sassy, long-suffering Peg Bundy sometimes wished for a divorce, and Katey Sagal had already split from her first husband, musician Fred Beckmeier, before she was cast in her signature role. Sagal and Beckmeier were married from 1978 to 1981.
In 1993, Sagal married her second husband, actor Jack White. They had a daughter, Sarah, and a son, Jackson, who went on to become an actor. In 1991, Sagal became pregnant with what would’ve been her and White’s first child, and her pregnancy was written into Married . . . With Children. Tragically, the baby ended up being stillborn, and the show’s writers ended up making Peg’s pregnancy plotline part of an extended dream sequence. Sagal and White divorced in 2000.

Since 2004, Sagal has been married to Sons of Anarchy creator and actor Kurt Sutter. In 2007, their daughter, Esme, was born via surrogate. Sagal starred as Gemma Teller Morrow, the widow of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club founder, on her husband’s gritty series.

In an interview, Sagal joked that working with Sutter on Sons of Anarchy helped her “realize how hot he is,” and she added that when it comes to their offscreen relationship, “As people that have come from being broken toys, as I like to say, to putting the pieces back together, we know what our priorities are, ultimately. Our priorities are mental health and recovery, and then our priorities are our children and taking care of them. Our priority is our marriage.”

Christina Applegate (Kelly Bundy)
Kelly Bundy was known for having a revolving door of bad boy admirers, but in real life, Christina Applegate was married to actor Johnathon Schaech from 2001 to 2007. Since 2013, she’s been married to Martyn LeNoble, a Dutch musician who was in the ’90s alt-rock band Porno for Pyros. In 2011, the actress/rock star couple had a daughter, Sadie.

Applegate has been open about her devastating health struggles, including a 2008 breast cancer diagnosis and a public battle with multiple sclerosis, which she revealed in 2021. LeNoble has been there for her every step of the way, and she’s said, “I’m very grateful to Martyn for coming along at a time that he did because he’s been my rock through all of this. He gave me something to really want to live for and something to smile about.”

David Faustino (Bud Bundy)
The youngest Bundy was married to musician Andrea Elmer from 2004 to 2007. Faustino is now married to Lindsay Bronson, and the couple has a daughter, Ava, born in 2015, and a son born in 2022.

After the birth of his daughter, Faustino said, “For me, growing up in this industry and having everything based on ego, it’s great to have something bigger to live for and get outside of myself a little bit,” and in a 2022 Instagram post featuring a picture of him and Bronson, he wrote, “From powering through covid while pregnant, to pretending to like all my mixes, this woman is a warrior and my forever Woman Crush.”
