It’s difficult not to be inspired by Selma Blair. The actress and activist exudes not only incredible talent and creativity but the ability to make a real difference. Blair has a finger on the pulse of what people need and that likely comes from her years immersed in pop culture and fashion. But her work with the American Brain Foundation, which she recently joined as a Global Ambassador and National Chair for Brain Health, has inspired her to create a clothing line that works for everyone.
After navigating her journey with multiple sclerosis (MS), Selma Blair is now focused on creating a clothing line with a brand that supported her during that time. She has teamed up with Mersea, a women-owned company known for travel-inspired pieces designed to make people feel comfortable and confident.
“The whole concept of their brand made me think, ‘Oh, well, maybe one day I really will feel well enough to travel again,’” Blair shared with Woman’s World. “So it was just a little wish I had at that time.”

Blair and the founders of Mersea, Lina Dickinson and Melanie Bolin, worked together to create Sea La Vie, a line that could “take you from bed to beach to breakfast.” Rather than having a change of clothes for every activity of the day, this line allows you to be comfortable in one outfit all day long—no matter what your plans are.
Infused with details of Blair’s life, such as a piece inspired by her mother, Sea La Vie was made to comfort you and to remind you to go with the flow.
“I fell in love with Mersea years ago and I didn’t have a lot of bandwidth,” Blair shared. “I was in the midst of being in bed and not doing well. A lot of things are captivating about their brand because it really is done with such a sense of adventure, spirit, comfort and chic.”
The pieces are personal to Selma Blair

Not only was the Sea La Vie line inspired by her desire to create clothing for day or night, but it’s also an extremely personal line. Several of the products were created with those beloved to her in mind, including her service dog, Scout, and her mother, Molly.
“One of my first requests [for the line], which is a nod to my mother and a time of me feeling so fatigued, was a bed jacket,” Blair recalled of creating the Molly Bedcoat. “My mother had four daughters and she held on to these bed jackets from the ’60s, so I wore them as a kid. Then I wore one out one night in New York when I was older with a cool pair of tights and high heels, and it was really kind of cool and weird. It was also when people were wearing lingerie dresses. So I asked if we could make a bed jacket.”
Not only do the pieces directly draw inspiration from her life but they include very personal and soulful details.
“The words ‘sweet dreams’ kept coming to me, which is so simple, but it is what we all want,” Blair explained. “We all want sweet dreams and we want someone to say sweet dreams when we go to bed. So [the line] was made with a lot of comfort and care… they feel like a personal, loving thing, and a love letter to whoever has it.”
How Sea La Vie came to life

The idea for Sea La Vie was a collaboration between Selma, Lina and Melanie and it was workshopped repeatedly. The initial idea to create comfortable, meaningful pieces was the driving force, but it wasn’t all decided in one night.
“It would just evolve over so many conversations and zoom meetings and inspiration boards, and her sketching things for us,” both Bolin and Dickinson shared.
As for the name, Sea La Vie, it was inspired by needing to be “fluid about what happens,” and having to “go with the flow.” Blair shared that the little messages on the products are meant to inspire that way of living.
“Just breathe,” she said. “I think that’s life. It’s a great reminder and everyone needs to remember that you can’t control everything. You have to just go with it.”
How the line brings awareness to brain health
Blair’s work hasn’t stopped with her clothing line. She has also become an active advocate for brain health awareness, particularly after entering remission. As part of that effort, she’s joined the American Brain Foundation.
That commitment is reflected in her collaboration with Mersea, with 10 percent of the line’s profits going toward the foundation to support brain research.
“I didn’t even realize my entire life that I had a neurological issue,” Blair explained. “I viewed the brain as something so distant… it just felt like a different part of my body. It is important to make everyone aware and any bit that they help can really advance brain research and finding a cure.”
At the same time, Blair has continued her work as a brain health advocate, bringing those efforts together with her fashion project. With the launch of Sea La Vie, she’s been able to combine both passions in a meaningful way.
“God, it’s the luckiest thing in the world to have moments of getting to work because it’s fun,” she enthused. “I felt so taken care of and it was such a nice way to start to open up my creativity again.”
