Back in 2023, viewers fell in love with Shrinking. The Apple TV+ dramedy told the story of a widowed therapist (played by Jason Segel) grieving the loss of his wife, who pursues a new approach to his career in which he meets his clients with completely unfiltered honesty. The series has been celebrated not only for the stellar performances by Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, and more, but also for the way it deals with themes like grief, forgiveness and healing. While on-screen we love seeing these actors and actresses shine alongside one another, off-screen, many of them share close bonds and meaningful friendships. Here, a look at the real-life friendships of the Shrinking cast.

Earlier this year at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the sweet dynamic between Jessica Williams and Harrison Ford was on full display. During the “I am an actor,” opener, Williams began sharing her L.A. origin story, but it was Harrison Ford snacking in the background that stole the show. Williams hilariously scolded him mid-speech, and that moment is only a small glimpse at the relationship between these two.

“He’s the guy in the room that all of your favorite movie stars and filmmakers come up to and they’re like, ‘You made me want to get into movies.’ You can see that they’re a kid again seeing Indiana Jones and Blade Runner and Han Solo all at the same time,” Williams said on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “There’s nobody quite like him, so to sit next to him is actually giving him room to be that guy,” she continued, noting how grateful she is to play a part in the timeline of his career.

The relationship between Jason Segel and Harrison Ford’s characters in Shrinking is a special one, and when the cameras aren’t rolling, the two have a whole lot of respect for one another. “That guy’s just the best. He’s a mentor and a friend and a confidant, and sometimes we just go and sit in the trailer together, real quiet-like,” Segel told Parade with a laugh. “It’s just really nice. I didn’t really expect this chapter of my life to be what it is, but it’s really cool.”

Jessica Williams and Jason Segel

Jessica Williams and Jason Segel play friends and colleagues on the hit show, and spending so much time together in front of a camera has allowed them to cultivate a strong friendship behind the camera. “A big part of the reason [I joined the show] was to be able to work with him and watch him work,” Williams told SheKnows about Jason Segel. “He works really, really hard and that inspired me in a way.”

Michael Urie and Jason Segel

While on-screen Michael Urie and Jason Segel play best friends, off-screen, the two share a close bond as well. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a script in his hand. He’s the most prepared actor I’ve ever worked with, and it really conditioned me to try to be as prepared and not have the crutch of the script anywhere on set,” Urie gushed about Segel in an interview with Tuscon.com

Jessica Williams and Christa Miller

These two Shrinking costars are gal pals IRL! “I love Christa and Ted,” said Williams in conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, also referring to Ted McGinley, who plays Miller’s husband on Shrinking. “Christa is married to Bill (Lawrence, one of the show’s creators), and aside from being a great actress, she’s also Bill’s wife. Bill thinks it’s really funny to see this odd pairing, and so he’s pretty obsessed with it. So he’s always like, making it happen, which is a joy. They write Liz to Christa, and I feel like it’s really fun that both of our characters are written toward us, and we get to have this really silly dynamic.”
