This country star girl dad is outnumbered!

Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins have been together since high school, and since tying the knot in 2012, they’ve grown their family to form quite the girl gang! A father of four sweet daughters—Willa Gray, Ada James, Lennon Love and Lillie Carolina—Rhett knows the power of fierce females—and though the country singer, known for songs like “Die a Happy Man” and “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Woman,” is certainly outnumbered, the 34-year-old doesn’t seem to mind.

When me and Lauren talked about having kids, I thought we were going to have like three or four boys, but I think I was meant to be a girl dad,” he told etalk back in 2020 before they welcomed their fourth daughter. “That’s what we produce—it’s girls! It’s been awesome, though; it’s softened my heart a ton.”

A family built on love—and faith

Their journey to becoming parents began in a non-traditional way when the couple adopted their eldest daughter, Willa Gray, from Uganda in 2017. Thomas still remembers the moment he saw a photo of Lauren holding baby Willa and felt an immediate pull.

There was something about this picture — she was glowing, man,” he recalled on Kevin Bacon’s podcast, Six Degrees. “When Lauren told me [Willa] had no living family, I just said, ‘We’re going to bring her home.’ I don’t even remember saying it.”

Soon after Willa came home, Lauren discovered she was pregnant, and just like that, the family of two became a family of four.

Since then, they’ve added two more girls — Lennon Love, born in 2020, and Lillie Carolina, born in 2021 — and with each daughter, Thomas says he’s grown more patient and present.

My patience can’t be thin at all when you have kids,” he told Kicks 99 Country. “I feel like I’ve grown in many, many ways as a dad and continue to grow every day.”

Life in a house full of girls

So what’s it like living in a house of five women? For Rhett, it’s pure joy — even when it’s chaotic. From dance parties in the kitchen to bedtime routines filled with sass, his life is full of color, laughter, and a lot of love.

He’s shared that Ada James, now 7, brings the firecracker energy to the house. “She’s extremely sassy,” he says with a laugh, and bedtime negotiations are a nightly occurrence.

Lennon Love, too, is full of spunk, and the youngest, Lillie, is already showing her own sparkle. “It just so happens that all of our kids are in different seasons of life,” Rhett said in a radio interview. “So that means navigating four seasons at once for me and Lauren.”

A team effort with his wife, Lauren

Of course, Rhett is the first to admit that none of this would be possible without Lauren. He frequently gushes about her on social media and in interviews, crediting her with keeping their family grounded and full of faith.

“She’s my best friend and the backbone of our family,” he’s said.

And though their schedules can be demanding — with music tours, school activities, and everything in between — Rhett says it’s all worth it when he comes home and hears, “I love you, Daddy!”

When I’m getting on the bus and they’re like, ‘Please don’t go,’ it breaks your heart,” he told etalk. “But it also reminds me why I do what I do. They’re my whole world.”
