Disney Cruise Ship Heroically Rescues Four Stranded Boaters—Watch the Dramatic Video Here!
Disney’s newest ship, the Treasure, saved four boaters stranded on a sinking vessel near Bermuda
The Disney Treasure, one of the newest ships in Disney’s Cruise Line fleet, aided in the rescue of four boaters off the coast of Bermuda on November 10. When the 50-foot catamaran began taking on water about 230 miles off the coast due to a gasket failure in the escape hatch, they contacted the Coast Guard for help and the Treasure was the closest vessel—about 80 miles away from those in distress. A small boat was soon launched from the vessel, ultimately saving all four passengers aboard the catamaran—all captured in a dramatic video.
“We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril,” said the Captain of the Disney Treasure, Marco Nogara, to ABC News. “Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety.”
Luckily for those aboard the catamaran, no one suffered any injuries and the rescue was successful. Back in 2023, another cruise ship a part of Disney’s fleet was a part of a water rescue when they noticed something floating in the sea after making a stop in Cozumel, Mexico. The ship was headed to their private island, Castaway Cay, when they made a detour to investigate. As it turned out, a 29-year-old man was stranded and rescued by the Disney Dream cruise ship.
Where was the Disney Treasure coming from?
The Disney Treasure did not have any passengers yet since it has not yet been officially launched. It was being constructed in Europe and was traveling from Eemshaven, Netherlands to Port Canaveral, Florida where it will embark on its maiden journey on December 21. Construction on this vessel began in January of 2023, and on October 30, it began its journey from Europe to the United States ahead of its next trip.
All about this new addition to the Disney Cruise Line
The cruise line has been taking passengers on magical journeys across seas since 1998. Including the Disney Treasure, the Disney fleet currently consists of six cruise ships: the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish.
This particular ship is one of Disney Cruise Line’s Triton class ships, coming in at over 140 tons and adorned with sculptures of beloved Disney characters Peter Pan and Captain Hook. “Based on artist renderings, the interior of the Disney Treasure will feature a Grand Hall with hues of deep blues, turquoise, and gold,” explained WDW Magazine. “Inspired by the palaces of faraway destinations, it’ll take some inspiration from the city of Agrabah in Aladdin–and the statue in the Grand Hall will feature Jasmine, Aladdin, and the Magic Carpet.” Will you be sailing on this heroic ship?
