Holly Robinson Peete Shares Secrets to 30-Year Marriage, ‘Queen’s Court’ and Self-Care (EXCLUSIVE)
The actress dishes on marriage to Rodney Peete, hosting ‘Queen’s Court’ and her self-care tips
Holly Robinson Peete knows what it’s like to juggle. Between her work as host of the hit reality series Queen’s Court to managing motherhood and marriage, the 60-year-old multi-talent has her own set of tools when it comes to self-care and keeping calm amidst the chaos. Working alongside her husband, former football star Rodney Peete, in her current career endeavor has been an entirely fulfilling experience, and her marriage to the famed former football player has informed a lot of her approach when working on Queen’s Court. Here, read about the actress’s love story, how she puts her relationship experience aside when it comes to her show and her favorite ways she takes care of herself amidst the balancing act.
Woman’s World: How are you doing right now?
Holly Robinson Peete: I’m doing great. I had a great summer vacation in Europe and now I’m back to the grind, getting back to work and kids back in school. The last baby is going to college at USC, which is very exciting because Rodney has finally got a Trojan, the school’s mascot, so he’s very excited.
WW: How did you know Rodney was the one?
HRP: There were two times that were really significant. When we started dating, I was dating somebody and Rodney was dating everybody. When he started to shut the door on everybody, that’s when I said, ‘Okay, this guy is ready to at least make an attempt at a monogamous relationship.’ When I saw he wanted to make an effort to do that, that was early on when he started to shut down the factory. The other time was when he proposed to me. It was the most authentic and amazing surprise. He had called every one, called my dad first and it was spectacular.

WW: Queen’s Court brings three single women with prospective suitors. What’s the most challenging part of being a host and producer of this show?
HRP: Just trying to make sure you understand the Queens, trying to get into their mindset. They’re all very headstrong women who have seen a lot of drama and sometimes dysfunction in their lives, especially when it comes to their love lives. It’s dropping all judgment and really trying to understand life from their point of view. I’ve been with the same guy for 30 years and the hardest thing for me is to try to remember what it was like when I was single, where I was in relationships and be compassionate, not judgmental.
WW: With all the stresses of your day-to-day, do you have a nighttime beauty and self-care ritual?
HRP: I have every eye cream—I’m a product hog. I have too many nighttime products. I have vitamin C, all kinds of hyaluronic acids, retinol. And I have to say, they’re really working. My skin is smooth and it’s being nice to me. No breakouts. I pile on everything. My husband says I’m so greasy when I come to bed. He says it looks like I’m getting ready for a prize fight. I like Elemis—I love that brand. Then there’s Beauty by Dr. Kay. She is a friend of mine who has a great line like her vitamin C ointments and serums. Between those brands, I’m taken care of.

WW: How do you kick off a productive day?
HRP: I’m in my matcha phase right now. My son lives in Japan and I’m obsessed with matcha. I went to visit him in the spring and went to matcha shops and saw these beautiful Japanese old men and women brewing and making matchas and I got into it, so that’s my pick-me-up. It’s not as much caffeine as in coffee. I found coffee was really drying out my skin and really drying my whole body out and not really agreeing with me. But matcha is a happy medium and I just prefer the taste. It’s a tea, but it has a very mild form of caffeine in it. Matcha is very healthy for you and now that I have a son living in Japan, I’ve really gone down this matcha rabbit hole and I’ve been learning how to make it.
WW: What goes with your matcha morning tea?
HRP: I always do protein, like egg white bites, like the ones you get at Starbucks. I love those, which is a dollop of protein. I have a new favorite superfood now which are sardines. Nobody in my family except my husband loves sardines. The kids just do not like them but they’re a super food and that’s just what my body needs. Fishwife is this brand I’m using–the packaging is so cool! They have tuna, smoked salmon and everything, so that’s my new favorite food product. They have these sardines that they put hot sauce on them and I’m all about it. I put them on a bagel with cream cheese instead of salmon and yeah baby!
