“Okay people, I’m back for the Quarter Final fit check, back by popular demand,” Gray-Edwards sweetly begins the video. “Okay, maybe it’s my demand but anyway.”
She goes on to show her USA themed merchandise, including a red Edwards sweatshirt with her daughter’s number on it, a United States t-shirt and “pants that I actually love from The Mart… Walmart that is.” Edwards is also sporting Number 10 Jersey earrings and red, white and blue themed nails.

The mother-daughter bond powering Team USA
The 2026 Winter Olympics are full of firsts for Laila Edwards. Not only is it the 22-year-old’s first time competing in the Games but she is also the first Black woman to compete on the U.S. women’s ice hockey team.
“I think it’s slowly dawning on me, and it’s just an honor, you know, to be that role model…” Edwards said. “To have the opportunity to represent, you know, a community and inspire other people is really motivating.”
Her mom chimed in with her support, explaining, “She’s an awesome hockey player, so I don’t want people to forget that part. But yes, it is a milestone. It’s an accomplishment that she’s the first Black woman, and we’re excited about that,” Gray-Edwards beamed.

The mother-daughter duo are very close, with Laila Edwards sharing how supportive her mom is of her dreams. In fact, her parents started a GoFundMe campaign so they could travel to Milan to watch their daughter compete in the Olympics. The fundraiser was created to cover expenses, and thanks to a special donation, they exceeded their goal.
How Travis and Jason Kelce Helped Send the Edwards Family to Milan
Football stars Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, who share a connection with Laila Edwards through growing up in Cleveland Heights, donated $10,000 to the GoFundMe campaign. Their contribution helped send the family to Milan, allowing the Edwards family to support their daughter.
“My mom is my rock, my biggest supporter,” Edwards shared. “My parents both had to make a lot of sacrifices. We didn’t grow up with a lot of money and hockey is really expensive. So, yeah, it was tough, but they made their sacrifices and got me here today.”
