All about ‘Gremlins 3’

During the Warner Bros. Discovery third-quarter earnings call, it was revealed that the third Gremlins film was underway—and a few familiar faces are returning to bring the story to the screen. Original screenwriter Chris Columbus and executive producer Steven Spielberg are behind Gremlins 3, and though we’re not quite sure what the story will hold, fans of the original films are already thrilled at the potential.

“Few titles are as beloved and iconic as Gremlins, and we’re beyond excited to bring it back for both lifelong fans and a whole new generation,” said President of Development and Production of Warner Bros. Pictures, Jesse Ehrman, as reported by Deadline. “It’s a privilege to be working alongside Steven, Chris, and the entire creative team, and we look forward to audiences experiencing the next installment of the magic, mayhem, and heart of Gremlins on the big screen in 2027.”

In the 1984 film Gremlins, starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, a young man’s father stumbles upon a creature, known as a mogwai, while looking for a Christmas present for his son. The little critter comes with a set of rules one must follow (don’t get them wet, don’t feed them after midnight and don’t expose them to bright light), but it isn’t long before these rules get bent and broken. Soon enough, a fleet of destructive gremlins has taken over the town right before Christmas, leaving Billy and his girlfriend to try and wrangle the creatures and put an end to their chaos.

‘Gremlins 2’ brought the fun once again

Gremlins 2: The New Batch packed just as much of a punch as the first film did, and this time around, these destructive creatures take on New York City. At the end of the first film, Gizmo is returned to his original owner, but when his home is destroyed, he’s captured and kept at a research facility in a New York City skyscraper. Ironically, Billy and Kate both work in this building, allowing Billy to rescue Gizmo. It doesn’t take long, however, for the little creature to get into trouble, and when he accidentally gets wet, so begins another adventure full of chaos and destruction as gremlins take over the skyscraper. Once again, Billy and Kate are left to try and clean up the mess before it’s too late and the damage done is irreversible.

With the original creative masterminds returning and nearly four decades of fan love fueling this project, Gremlins 3 promises to be a celebration of everything we adored about the originals—plus fresh surprises for today’s audiences. Mark your calendars for November 19, 2027, and get ready to fall in love with Gizmo all over again. The countdown to mogwai mayhem officially begins now!
