Reboots on top of reboots! Jamie Lee Curtis made a very exciting confirmation while on the carpet for her new film Freakier Friday with Lindsay Lohan, a reboot of their original film, Freaky Friday.

Reports began swirling in December 2024 that Curtis might take over the role for the Universal project. After months of speculation that Curtis was being considered to revive a classic role, she has finally spilled that, yes, she will be bringing back the iconic Murder, She Wrote, in the form of a reboot film.

In typical Curtis fashion, the actress dramatically shared, “Oh, it’s,” before taking a long pause, “happening. We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited,” Curtis continued. “But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”

The film script is reportedly being written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, while Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal are signing on as producers.

Curtis will be starring as the lead character, Jessica Fletcher, who was once famously portrayed by Angela Lansbury. Murder, She Wrote, a mystery series on CBS, originally aired from 1984 until 1996, and lasted for a total of 12 seasons. The series followed Jessica Fletcher, a mystery writer and amateur detective who discovers criminals and killers in the murder capital of the country in Cabot Cove, Maine.

The Primetime Emmy-winning series captivated audiences for 12 years thanks to the cozy yet mysterious feel of the plot as well as Angela Lansbury herself, who was nominated for 3 Oscars during her career. Although the late actress didn’t receive her initial fame from the series, her fame significantly increased following the show’s debut.

Following the end of the series in 1996, Lansbury continued to portray her character in four spinoff films: South by Southwest (1997), A Story to Die For (2000), The Last Free Man (2001) and The Celtic Riddle (2003).

Murder, She Wrote drew in 26 million viewers weekly and its popularity continued till its end and afterwards. Now, Curtis is coming to bring that role back to life in the reboot film. Curtis, who is an Academy Award winner for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, will bring back that familiar feel from the series while reviving the role.

While there is no other news on who will star alongside Curtis in the upcoming film, this one will certainly be something to look forward to.
