Best movies on Tubi

Eight Men Out (1988)

Just in time for baseball season, this semi-fictionalized account of the scandal surrounding the 1919 World Series, aka the Black Sox Scandal, is a great story about the Chicago White Sox being odds-on-favorites to win the World Series.

In come professional gamblers looking to fix the game, especially with the players feeling underpaid and unappreciated by team owner Charles Comiskey. One of our favorite movies to watch on Tubi!

Bill Durham (1988)

Another movie just in time to stream during baseball season, this rom-com sports themed film stars Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. It begins at the outset of the minor league baseball season when Annie Savoy (Sarandon) is going through her annual process of choosing one player on her home team of the Durham Bulls who she will take under her wing, sexually and otherwise.

History proves her pick always has gone on to have his best year as a player, and the choices have been narrowed down to wild pitcher Ebby Calvin LaLoosh (Robbins) and veteran catcher Crash Davis (Costner). May the best player win.

Lady Bird (2017)

There’s a reason why this film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture — It features outstanding performances from Laurie Metcalf and Saoirse Ronan, nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively.

This coming-of-age comedy-drama focuses on a high school senior who shares a turbulent relationship with her mother. The movie was directed by Greta Gerwig (Barbie) in her directorial debut.

Blue Velvet (1986)

Some called this neo-noir mystery thriller shocking and subversive, but the David Lynch written and directed film boasts a stellar cast: Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Isabella Rossellini and Dennis Hopper.

It’s named after the 1951 song of the same name. A young college student, Jeffrey Beaumont (MacLachlan), returns home to visit his ill father. Out for a walk, he finds a severed ear in a field and decides to solve the mystery of the ear’s owner with the help of Sandy (Dern).

Beaumont finds himself drawn into a vast criminal conspiracy and a relationship with a lounge singer (Rossellini), who has her own dark world. The movie is not for the faint of heart.

The Third Man (1949)

This film noir starring Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles is set in a post-war Vienna that has been divided into sectors by the victorious allies. The atmospheric use of black-and-white cinematography is a major feature of this movie, combined with the unique theme music and stand-out performances that make this an intriguing mystery at the start of the Cold War.

Precious (2009)

Set in Harlem, a 16-year-old Claireece Jones, who goes by her middle name of Precious, is uneducated, obese and pregnant for the second time by the same man — her biological father, who has sexually abused her since she was a child.

Not only is Precious abused by her father, but she finds herself living with her mother who abuses her physically and emotionally. To escape this horrible life, Precious daydreams of finding herself in glamorous situations.

Thankfully, a sympathetic teacher tries to convince Precious that there is a future and a better life if she learns to read and write. The film stars Gabourey Sidibe and Mo’Nique, alongside Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd and Lenny Kravitz.

The gift is soon stolen, and Paddington is framed and imprisoned for a burglary he did not commit. Therefore, he and his family must find the real culprit in order to prove his innocence.

Cats (2018)

Not to be confused with the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical, this animated film is “pawsitively” hilarious. A cat named Blanket (Dermot Mulroney) lives in a high-rise apartment in a big city with his son, Cape.

One day, Cape decides to leave home and go out on an adventure to find the legendary cat’s paradise. Blanket sets out to find his son with the help of a female Macaw. This film makes for a great family movie night, proving that you can find movies for all on Tubi!

The Lighthouse (2019) movies on Tubi

With little dialogue, the film stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson as 19th century lighthouse keepers who are stranded at a remote New England outpost by a wild storm.
