Get ready toys, because it’s time to go back to infinity and beyond. That’s right, Disney just released the teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, and it’s filled with Easter eggs! Below, we share everything you need to know about the highly anticipated fifth film, including what moment from Toy Story 4 has everyone online confused.

What we know about ‘Toy Story 5’

Toy Story 5 is a long-awaited CG animated film by both Disney and Pixar. It’s expected to follow Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and the rest of the gang as they deal with a new threat in their playroom: a smart tablet by the name of Lilypad (Greta Lee).

“I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie [Joan Cusack],” Allen told WIVB in April of this year. “Tom and I do—Woody and I—do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”

The film is expected to release in theaters on June 19, 2026, 31 years after the release of the original Toy Story. Since then, a lot has clearly changed in the technology and film worlds, both of which are expected to be explored in the film.

“It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favorite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences,” director Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris said in a statement. “Having the remarkably talented Greta Lee bring Lilypad to life—balancing a playfully antagonistic tone with humor and heart—has been incredible.”

Why the ‘Toy Story 5’ trailer has people confused

Since the Toy Story 5 trailer was released, fans of the franchise have been confused about one thing: why is Woody back at Bonnie’s (Madeleine McGraw)?

In the fourth film, everyone’s favorite sheriff was seen leaving Bonnie and his toy friends, opting to instead be a lost toy with Little Bo Beep (Annie Potts). It was a very emotional moment that had a lot of fans in tears, especially since, in the final scene, Woody and Buzz drive away from each other saying, “to infinity and beyond.”

“The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing them, so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn’t want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn’t see me,” Hanks said of the fourth film’s ending on BBC’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show back in 2018. “When I realized what they were going for, I realized, ‘Oh, this is a moment in history.'”

Because of that, people are confused about how Woody returned home. Did he simply not like being lost? Or did someone come and find him and drag him back? The answer to that remains a mystery that will most likely either be solved when a full-length trailer is released or when the movie comes out next summer. But based on what Allen said above, it’s safe to say that, yes, Woody and Buzz will reunite at some point in the fifth film.

Will there be a ‘Toy Story 6’?

As of publication, there is no news on whether there will be a sixth Toy Story movie. For those who want to see Woody and Buzz now, though, all the films and specials are available to stream on Disney+.
