Paul McCartney Stuns Fans With Surprise NYC Show—‘Some Little Gig. New York. Why Not?’
Plus, the singer will return for yet another performance there tonight!
Seeing a rising artist in a small venue is magical—but watching a global icon like Paul McCartney perform an intimate concert? Once in a lifetime. That’s exactly what happened last night in New York City when the legendary Beatle shocked fans with a surprise show at The Bowery Ballroom. Here’s everything you need to know—including why he’s doing it again tonight!
How did the surprise Paul McCartney show happen?
Earlier in the day, it was announced that the famed Beatle would be making his way to the quaint venue, The Bowery Ballroom, to put on a show for a select few who were lucky enough to snag a ticket.
However, this was a far cry from the Ticketmaster battles we’ve grown used to in this day and age, hoping our spot in the queue will land us a shot at seeing one of our favorite performers. Instead, to get a glimpse at the surprise show, you had to make your way to the Bowery Ballroom in person and purchase your ticket (which sold for $50 each) at the box office.
Considering the norm for McCartney is stadiums overflowing with fans, this humble crowd of about 500 was a change from the pace he’s grown used to over the years. “So, here we are,” remarked the musician. “Some little gig. New York. Why not?” Playing for about an hour and 40 minutes, those who managed to get their hands on these highly coveted tickets saw a setlist that took us back to various eras of the singer’s life and career.

Paul McCartney’s surprise NYC concert: What songs did he play?
Paul McCartney’s setlist had something for everyone, and kicked off with none other than “A Hard Day’s Night.” As for which Beatles hits made the lineup, the audience was thrilled to hear the 82-year-old take on hits like “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” “Blackbird” and more. McCartney even brought to life on stage “Now and Then,” the song The Beatles took home a Grammy for earlier in the month, which was comprised of an old John Lennon demo.
The band’s eighth Grammy win was monumental, partially due to the fact that the song was brought to life using AI, but also because the victory came 50 years after the group disbanded. The song, which won the award for Best Rock Performance, prompted McCartney to give his fellow bandmate John Lennon a shoutout at his surprise show. “Thank you, John,” he said. “New York City. He loved it so much here. Let’s hear it for John!”

Is Paul McCartney planning more surprise concerts?
Though McCartney’s performance last night was seemingly once-in-a-lifetime, it was announced on his social media today that he would be playing yet another surprise show at the Bowery this evening as well. Tickets, however, were first-come-first-served and rapidly sold out. With doors opening at 5 p.m. and the show beginning at 6:30 p.m., the post urged fans to “Avoid purchasing tickets from third-party vendors. Fake tickets will not be honoured and entry will be denied.”
