With all the crazy fad diets and weight-loss pills out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. So many diets will tell you that you must eat at a certain time, suffer through miserable workouts every day, and only eat snacks that are included on a pre-approved list. Sometimes it’s all just too much! So why not start simple? Go with something that’s tried-and-true: walking.
That’s what Reddit user Figoak had in mind when she first started her weight-loss journey. Instead of killing herself at the gym or only eating green things, she started walking on a treadmill at home. At first, she walked four times per week for around 40 minutes at a time, totaling almost two miles. Right now, she’s worked her way up to walking outside on trails and around the neighborhood for four to five miles on six or seven days out of the week. So far, she’s lost 103 pounds. You go, girl!
“My recommendation is to not rush or try to get crazy mileage or speed , that comes with time. If I had tried to walk 5 miles 6 times a week at the beginning I would have burned out,” she said. “The most important thing is to make it a habit and to start viewing it as an opportunity to disconnect from everything. I’m a fan of podcasts, so I take this opportunity to listen to them, and it makes my walk more enjoyable. The time I spend walking is me time.”
And couldn’t we all use a little bit more “me time”? When dinner is done and the dishes have been washed and put away, why not take a stroll around the block instead of setting up camp in front of the television. You can rope a friend (or even the husband) into walking with you.
https://imgur.com/KVdh7Ew
In addition to walking, she also worked on portion control. While that might sound like a very scary term, it doesn’t have to be. Portion control doesn’t mean giving up the things you love, it just means enjoying them in moderation.
See, simple changes are the name of the game. So tonight, find an audiobook you really love or create your own workout playlist and go for a walk. You’ll be taking the first few steps to your goal weight.
