Rare Entirely White Moose Captivates World’s Attention

It’s like seeing snow in the middle of summer. At least that’s what we’re thinking after getting a good look at this white moose, which is the talk of the internet today.

The white moose, who’s gone viral after being recorded in the southwest part of Sweden by a local politician, is as breathtaking to behold as it is unusual. After all, we can’t think of the last time we saw any animal out in the wild, much less a moose, that was entirely white (even up to its antlers!).

The really crazy part about this white moose is that it didn’t get its color from albinism (though you’d be forgiven for thinking that was the case!). Look closely at the white moose’s eyes. As you can see, they are not pink or red in color, which typically happens when animals or humans have albinism. Instead, this white moose got its color as a result of a recessive gene that causes it to grow white fur with tiny specks of brown — a condition commonly referred to as “piebald.”

As you can probably imagine, a white moose is an extremely rare sighting. Experts have said that even in Sweden, there’s only about 100 white moose roaming around. But Sweden isn’t the only place you can find a white moose; the stunning creatures have also been spotted in Norway, Canada, and even Alaska.

How fascinating is that? But let’s face it, no matter how these moose got their color or how many of them there are, our real focus is how gorgeous these animals are — and how much the camera clearly loves them.
