Prince William Doing Yoga Is Our Spirit Animal

These hilarious photos of Prince William doing yoga are totally inspiring us to stretch this holiday season. After all, yoga is supposed to be a wonderful way to detox during this stressful time of year.

The prince was spotted practicing a variation of high lunge twist, also known as a  revolved crescent lunge, and his cat-cow pose back in May 2016 before the Audi Polo Challenge. It seems normal enough that the Duke of Cambridge would be stretching before a match, but it’s funny that he’s still wearing jeans and a button-up! We had to hold back the urge to yell “Not on the grass!” as soon as we saw the prince’s white jeans; after all, removing grass stains is no fun. (We’re guessing the royal staff in charge of laundry heaved a tremendous sigh of relief when they saw his pants were still spotless.)

Kate Middleton reportedly attended prenatal yoga classes while pregnant with Prince George and continued to practice after his birth, so it’s possible Prince William joined his wife for a class or two. This scenario isn’t hard to believe given how flexible the duke is.

Prince William doesn’t discuss his fitness routine with the press, but he reportedly follows the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 5BX (Five Basic Exercises) plan, which was created by Bill Orban in the late ’50s. A typical workout should take only 11 minutes and consist of five exercises: stretching, sit-ups, back extensions, push-ups, and running in place. The level of difficulty of each exercise increases the more advanced a person is.

There’s also the XBX (Ten Basic Exercises) plan for women that’s based on the same concept — and it only takes 12 minutes to complete. Actress Helen Mirren is a fan of this workout regimen, which explains why she’s still so fit at 73 years old.

The next time we’re feeling uninspired to work out and complaining about how all our exercise clothes are dirty, we’ll think of Prince William doing yoga in street clothes. Is there any better proof that the royals are just like us?
