‘The Husbands’ TV Series Casts Lead Star—Everything to Know About Apple TV+’s Latest Buzzy Adaptation
Bestselling novel 'The Husbands' hits TV! Here’s the cast, plot and what to know before it streams
It’s no secret that we love a good book-to-screen adaptation here at Woman’s World. The most recent one we’re excited about? The Husbands—the TV series! That’s right, the bestselling novel by Holly Gramazio is officially becoming an Apple TV+ show, and it has already cast the lead character of Lauren. Below, we share everything you need to know about the show, including when you can expect to stream it.
What is ‘The Husbands’ TV series about? Plot & book tie-in explained
The Husbands was announced by Apple TV earlier this year. It will have a total of eight episodes, all of which are written by Miriam Battye (Succession and Beef) and directed by Craig Gillespie (Your Friends & Neighbors and Pam & Tommy and next summer’s Supergirl). Both of them will also serve as executive producers alongside Annie Marter (The Devil All the Time and Nobody). The production company behind the show is A24.
The TV adaptation is expected to follow the plot of the novel, which centers on Lauren — a woman who comes home to find a man named Michael insisting he’s her husband. The problem? She’s never seen him before. Things grow even stranger when Michael heads into the attic to change a lightbulb, only to vanish — replaced by yet another man claiming to be her spouse. As reality unravels, Lauren begins to question what’s truly happening and whether her own life is as it seems.

“Some pretty silly news! So, so, so excited about this, and not totally sure I’m not making it up: @a24 are making a tv show of The Husbands for @appletv,” Gramazio wrote on Instagram in April of this year. “What an AMAZING dream, ridiculous bunch of brilliant people, what a deeply weird turn of events.”
Meet the cast: Juno Temple is Lauren—who else could join?
Along with the initial show announcement, Apple TV and A24 also revealed that Juno Temple will be taking on the role of Lauren. She is 36-years-old and best-known for her work in Atonement, Horns, Killer Joe, Ted Lasso, Fargo and Venom: The Last Dance.

As of publication, Temple is the only confirmed cast member. She has not as of yet commented on the announcement, but the news was reported by several outlets, including Deadline.
When will ‘The Husbands’ premiere on Apple TV+?
Currently, there is no release date for The Husbands TV show. There is also no news on how long each of the eight episodes will be or if they will release all at once or weekly. However, if you cannot wait that long you can always re-read the book, which, as Gramizo notes, does concern itself with themes of dating in the modern world.
“Writing The Husbands made me think about all the ways that online dating is just no fun at all for anyone,” the author told Esquire in April of 2024. “ It’s no fun for women, it’s no fun for men—nobody is having a good time. At this point, it’s become a hobby of dutiful swiping, messaging and trying to figure out if you can meet up with someone.”
“I did want the book to acknowledge that not everyone is always putting their best foot forward in relationships, especially ones they’ve been in for a long time. There are certainly times when Lauren behaves appallingly, too, with the excuse that she’ll soon be in a different universe and won’t have to feel bad about any of it,” she continued. “So much of a relationship isn’t in either individual person but in the ways that your different habits, compatibilities and desires happen to bump up against each other in ways that encourage you to be your best self—or prompt a worse version of who you could be. Ultimately, I didn’t want the book to be a tour around different ways that men are bad.”
