When it comes to jaw-dropping scandals and high-stakes drama, few shows are hitting the mark right now like Netflix’s The Hunting Wives. The hit new series made the streamer’s ‘top 10’ list shortly after its release in July—and it’s since racked up more than 2 billion minutes viewed. The series, based on May Cobb’s twisty novel of the same name, follows publicist-turned-housewife Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow) as she and her family move from Boston to Texas. Soon after, Sophie falls in with a Southern circle of wealthy women—led by ringleader Margo Banks (Malin Akerman)—known as The Hunting Wives.

Over the past few weeks, the show has inspired laugh-out-loud viral moments and endless discourse online. Some eagle-eyed fans even drew comparisons between The Hunting Wives and the fan-favorite reality franchise The Real Housewives. “I think somebody on this writing team watches the Housewives,” one Reddit user pointed out, referring to a scene that felt a lot like a certain RHOB moment. Well, the inspiration really is plentiful because the salacious Netflix series looks like it’s getting developed into a real-life reality show. Here, we gathered up everything to know about The Hunting Wives reality show possibilities, including the casting call announcement, plot details and more!

‘The Hunting Wives’ reality show: everything we know so far

On August 13, production company Ain’t That Something Entertainment put out a casting call on Instagram that said, “A major streaming service in partnership with @spoke.studios and @aintthatsomethingentertainment, is casting a close-knit circle of Southern friends navigating faith, friendship, and life’s untold chapters for a major docuseries.” Fans were quick to flood social media with comments tying the reality show call-to-action with the Netflix series.

The Instagram post went on to reveal the production company is looking for “big personalities” and “big stories.” They also teased a working show title called, The Real Hunting Wives of the South. So, if you saw yourself in Sophie O’Neil or *gasp* Margo Banks and are interested in starring in a reality TV show, you can email Ain’t That Something Entertainment’s casting line. What the real-life stars are saying about the show’s success

Swedish actress Malin Akerman, who plays the magnetic Margo Banks, says the reactions to the show are “really wild.” In fact, she recalled being out of the country (visiting family in Sweden) while the show was going viral—and was unaware of its success for weeks! “It feels a bit Twilight-y Zone,” she revealed to host Amanda Hirsch on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. “I literally left on the 21st—on the day the show came out—and it only came out in the U.S. I felt it from afar, but I hadn’t felt the full impact. It’s always so hard to know what kind of impact a show is going to have on viewers. I’ve never been a part of something like this before—it’s definitely a wild ride.”

The Hunting Wives was originally set to air on Starz, which is known for its steamier content, but a last-minute behind-the-scenes switch rerouted the show to a different streamer. “When that call came that it was going to Netflix, I think I squealed,” Akerman continued. “I was so excited and then I had a small panic attack because I was like, oof the content—a lot more eyeballs on this now! But it’s great—it’s such a fun, brilliant show.”

When it comes to the show’s hot-and-heavy themes, Akerman says she asked her husband’s opinion on the script first. “I wanted to cross-check with my husband…not because of the nudity or anything like that, but because he’s a scriptwriter as well and I really trust his opinion.” When her husband, Jack Donnelly, got to the script’s fourth episode he declared that she “was made for the role.” Akerman was delighted by Donnelly’s reaction. “He was like, ‘it’s so layered, it’s so nuanced—she’s just the most fun character. You have to do this.’”
