The acclaimed crime author’s bestselling 2017 novel, The Good Daughter, is officially being turned into a TV series—and the author herself is set to write and produce every single episode. All about ‘The Good Daughter’ TV show
The Good Daughter TV series has been in development at Peacock, NBCUniversal’s hit streaming platform. The show will star Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, The Perfect Couple and Sirens) and Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids, Neighbors), with Karin Slaughter herself writing and directing the adaptation,
The TV series is expected to closely follow the plot of the 2017 bestselling novel, The Good Daughter, which tells the haunting story of sisters Charlotte (Charlie) and Samantha Quinn. Their world was shattered when a violent attack on their family home left their mother dead and their lives changed forever. Nearly three decades later, Charlie, now a successful lawyer, is pulled into a harrowing new case that reawakens the buried trauma of that night. As painful memories resurface, she and Samantha are forced to confront the truth they’ve spent years trying to forget. But will uncovering the past finally bring them closure—or will darker questions arise?
The novel currently has more than 200,000 ratings on Goodreads and was an instant New York Times bestseller. It’s also the first in a series, and as of publication, there is no news on whether the prequel, Last Breath, will also be adapted.
A look at Karin Slaughter’s other TV adaptations
Along with The Good Daughter, Slaughter also had her hit series Will Trent turned into an ABC show starring Ramón Rodríguez, Erika Christensen, Jake McLaughlin and more. It follows Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent Will Trent as he solves crimes and puzzles in both his personal and professional life.
“I’m an executive producer, so I get to read the scripts—they’re so generous,” Slaughter told Woman’s World Editor-in-Chief Liz Vaccariello last year.
“They invite me to the set all the time. I met the actors and had dinner with them and Liz, the executive producer. She’s amazing. She loves storytelling. She worked on Friday Night Lights. She’s done some really great shows since then and she is a real character fan. So I think with her at the helm, she was very invested in making sure the characters were true to themselves. And Dan Thompson, who’s the showrunner, he’s really into the books and he’s a great guy. So I feel like it’s been a really fairytale situation. I know sometimes authors like to complain, but I think they’re doing a terrific job.”
Will Trent currently has three seasons, and is expected to have a fourth release at some point soon—most likely next year.
When will ‘The Good Daughter’ be released on Peacock?
As of publication, there is no word on when The Good Daughter will be available to stream on Peacock, but here’s hoping it’s soon because we cannot wait to see Fahy and Byrne shine as the Quinn sisters.
