14 Years Later, Taylor Kitsch Reacts to ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reboot: What He’ll Do (and Won’t)
The actor weighed in on the Peacock reboot and shared his thoughts on whether he is open to returning
It’s been 14 years since Taylor Kitsch tore up the field as the Dillon Panther football star, Tim Riggins, in the sports drama series, Friday Night Lights. When a reboot of the series was announced in December, fans went wild, wondering whether the beloved cast would return, Kitsch included. The actor recently spoke up about the upcoming new series and what a potential return of Tim Riggins would mean.
At the premiere of his current series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Kitsch was asked whether he would consider returning to the reboot and reprising his most famous role. While the actor confirmed that he was indeed asked whether he would return, he also shared that he isn’t exactly interested in going back to that world.
“I was asked to do it,” Kitsch said. “Umm, yeah, I’m not going back. No.” While he quickly shut down the possibility of becoming a series regular in the Texas high school again, Kitsch left an opening for another role in the reboot.
“I’ll do a cameo,” he said. “I would do one. It’s got to be out of control, though.”
Months before he shared this, Kitsch spoke about the possibility of returning and shared a similar feeling about it.
“If you wanted to put me as a visiting coach with two lines, I probably would do that, just for fun,” he said. “I think that would be the most I would do, because I love the way we left it.”
Connie Britton shares why she likely won’t return as Tami Taylor

In 2021, Connie Britton, who starred as the Coach’s wife Tami Taylor, spoke about what a potential reunion would look like and explained why it probably wasn’t in the cards for her.
“I don’t see them going back into that story, at least with this cast,” she said at the time. “We know we’ve already had a movie, we already had this TV show, and then if they were to do it again with like, a whole different iteration of it, I don’t know. I would think that would be sort of odd.”
Of course, the stars are probably right that it would be strange to head back into a universe where most of them were last teenagers, but that doesn’t mean we won’t miss them on our screens.
What we know so far about the ‘Friday Night Lights’ reboot
A reboot of Friday Night Lights was announced late last year, with the addition of an entirely new cast. Of course, this will not be the first recreation of the story, as it began as a novel in 1990 and later became a movie in 2004, followed by the series in 2006.
Now, Peacock is bringing the story back again with a bit of a different hook. The description from the streaming service reads: “The potential series takes place in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, when a ragtag high school football team and their damaged interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship. Through their unexpected rise, the football team becomes a beacon of light for their town.”
As of now, not much else is known about the series, but we certainly have clear eyes and full hearts about seeing our favorite football team back on the screen.
