What’s your favorite romance trope?

What exactly is CandyJar?

CandyJar is a short-drama streaming app that offers viewers “snackable” or bite-sized serialized romance and drama episodes—often called “microdramas”—to viewers. The microdramas are broken up into these short episodes, adding to the addictive quality of this storytelling format.

How does CandyJar work?

CandyJar—alongside similar platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox—has become a key player in the rising wave of microdramas. What makes these apps so appealing is their efficiency: viewers can binge through tons of stories in the time it would take to watch a single movie or a few episodes of traditional TV. That said, their subscription models don’t mirror services like Netflix or Hulu, where one fee unlocks an entire library.

What it’s about: Okay, so this one isn’t exactly available to watch yet—but it will be soon! Beloved for his roles in How Stella Got Her Groove Back and The Best Man, Taye Diggs will be the first A-list star stepping into the buzzy world of microdramas. This month, production is set to begin on “Off Limits & All Mine” (working title) per Variety, which means you’ll be able to watch this sooner than later.

The official CandyJar logline reports Diggs will star as “a widower who takes in his best friend’s rebellious daughter and realizes that a dangerous and transformative connection is about to unfold.” The press release also notes the series will feature a Black ensemble, saying “Black-led romantic dramas belong at the center of the microdrama boom, not at its margins.”
