Rebecca Yarros fans, we have some exciting news for you and, shockingly, it’s not Fourth Wing related. No, this news has to do with her bestselling romance novel The Last Letter. That’s right: the book that had all of BookTok (book TikTok) crying is officially being turned into a movie, and we have all the details on the cast, plot, release date and more below.

What we know so far about ‘The Last Letter’ movie

The Last Letter movie was announced exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week. It’s going to be produced by Amazon MGM and, according to the announcement, Anna Klassen (The Last Sunrise and Dorothy and Alice) is expected to serve as the lead writer. She will work alongside Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody from Imagine Entertainment, the company that will produce the film.

“Gratitude isn’t a big enough word to capture this feeling,” Yarros wrote on Instagram after the news broke. “I wrote/bled this book seven years ago, and to see this happen has been by far the greatest and most humbling moment of my career. The Last Letter is such a meaningful book to me, and watching it touch so many people all these years after publication means the world to me!”

“I’m thrilled to see it in the hands of the talented Anna Klassen, @amazonmgmstudios and @imagineentertainment, and I cannot wait to see Beckett and Ella come to life on the screen,” she continued. “Thank you to every reader who has read and loved The Last Letter. I’m forever in your debt and so thankful you’ve taken a chance on me!”

What’s the plot of ‘The Last Letter’? A no-spoiler book recap

The Last Letter was originally published in 2019 by Entangled Publishing. It has since received over 390,000 ratings on Goodreads, and aside from Fourth Wing, is considered to be Yarros’ best book to date.

The plot follows Ella, a single mother who falls in love with her brother’s best friend, Beckett, through a series of letters. It’s a deeply moving story filled with love, loss, family and friendship that will leave readers flipping the pages long into the night, desperate to know what happens next.

“Seven years ago, I wrote this book. Six years ago, it published. Yesterday, you guys made it hit Number 3 on the New York Times in hardback!!! This is my first contemporary to hit the NYT,” Yarros wrote on Instagram in September of this year. “Thank you isn’t enough. I’m truly humbled, speechless and moved beyond words. Especially to you guys who have been with me from the start. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for your support!”

“If you haven’t read this one yet, just beware that it’s my saddest book, and grab some tissues,” she concluded.

Release date and casting updates for ‘The Last Letter’ movie

At this time, there’s no information available on who will star in The Last Letter movie. There is also no set release date for the film, though if you want to see how Beckett and Ella’s story unfolds, you can always pick up a copy of the novel wherever books are sold.

“This is one of my favorite books I’ve ever written. It was my first Kirkus Star, my first Publishers Weekly Star and is my first contemporary romance novel to be available in hardcover in English,” Yarros wrote on Instagram in September of this year. “Thank you to everyone who has loved this book with me (even through your tears)!”
