‘Building Back America’s Trades’ tells inspiring stories
The trades industry is an umbrella term that defines various hands-on occupations—ranging from plumbing, electric work and painting to welding and HVAC work—that requires specialized training that veers from the traditional four-year college degree path many choose to pursue. In the age of modern technology where phones and computers dominate everyday life, younger generations have strayed away from careers in the trades—but in this exciting new Magnolia Network series, viewers are introduced to a new generation of workers leaving their mark.
Building Back America’s Trades highlights stories of folks from all walks of life—veterans who found new purpose after service, women leaving their mark on an industry dominated by men or a mother who showed up day after day while completing chemotherapy.
In the show’s premiere episode, viewers will be introduced to Dianna, a woman who completed She Built This City’s apprenticeship program, all while undergoing chemo treatments. According to She Built This City’s website, the organization aims to “provide industry-disruptive programming that sparks interest and builds pathways to lucrative careers in the skilled trades for youth, women and marginalized communities,” as well as “dismantle barriers and stigmas in traditionally male-dominated industries through innovative, sustainable practices that prepare us for a future of jobs that have yet to be created.”
In an exclusive clip from the series, Dianna opens up about the difficulty, the doubters and proving to the world that she had more to give as she faced an uncertain future. In the video, she gets candid about her experience, sharing, “Once you kind of face death, you kind of start questioning everything in your life. What have I done other than be a mother and a caregiver? When did I stop being my own person?” Here, see a preview of the episode below.
