Chip and Joanna Gaines are no stranger to the small screen. After all, they have over 10 years of experience and a variety of spinoffs that are sure to keep viewers entertained for weeks. But, what exactly are all of their Fixer Upper shows about? And why is there a new one, Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House, making history? We share all of that and more below.

‘Fixer Upper’ (2014 to 2018)

In 2014, Fixer Upper debuted on HGTV and changed everything. In it, Chip and Joanna travel around Waco, Texas, redesigning homes and businesses. The show featured 80 episodes total and is considered to be the Gaines’ family’s big break.

“I really loved this final Fixer Upper season because there was such a variety of styles and projects that really kept us on our toes. We did everything from an old barn out in the country to a downtown loft apartment,” Joanna wrote in a letter back in April of 2018. “We are grateful to all the families who joined in on this journey with us over the past five years—what an honor to be a part of their stories.”

‘Fixer Upper: Welcome Home’ (2021)

In 2021, Chip and Joanna relaunched Fixer Upper under the name Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. It followed the same format as their first show—with them going all around Texas and fixing up buildings—but only lasted one season.

“These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don’t think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts,” Chip and Joanna said in a statement back in 2021, per Parade. “We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!”

‘Fixer Upper: The Castle’ (2022)

Fixer Upper: The Castle was Chip and Joanna’s first-ever spinoff. In it, the couple buys Cottonland Castle in Waco, Texas and attempts to fix it up. Following the renovation, the two decided to open the castle for tours, which you can learn more about here

“During the renovation process, we repeatedly returned to the castle’s roots—studying the German castle that inspired its original design and finding ways to restore those stunning details,” Joanna said, per Elle Decor. “While we completely re-envisioned some parts of the castle and gave others a new purpose, in the end the goal was to make it a home again—blending past and present, beauty and functionality, sophistication and charm.”

‘Fixer Upper: The Hotel’ (2023)

In 2023, Chip and Joanna decided to purchase an old building right down the street from Magnolia Market at the Silos and turn it into a hotel. They also decided to document it on the show Fixer Upper: The Hotel, which had six episodes total.

“The building itself was so massive and represented such an important piece of our city’s history that it felt a little daunting to wrap our minds around what it should become,” Joanna said in 2023, per USA Today. “Our minds were spinning with ideas around how incredible it would be to restore this landmark property in Waco back into a place that welcomes people in again.”

‘Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse’ (2024)

In Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse, Chip and Joanna decided to flip a 5,100-square-foot lake house. The show consisted of six episodes and for the time being stands as the last Fixer Upper show the two filmed in Texas.

“Inside and out, the lake house nods to mid-century style with minimalist, clean lines and a low-pitched roof, as well as a Spanish Revival influence with arches and natural materials. Throughout the home, the furniture, millwork, color palette and finishes were all chosen to reflect the ‘60s era in which it was built,” reads a description of the home on their website, Magnolia. “Warm-toned paneling, terrazzo flooring, plastered texture, rich terracotta and earthy green hues all come together to create an approach that’s equal parts fresh and familiar.”

‘Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House’ (2025)

Chip and Joanna’s most recent Fixer Upper show—entitled Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House—will follow the couple as they try to transform a 1960s mountain home into a family retreat. It will be their first show not set in Texas, and is expected to include some moments with their daughter Ella Rose Gaines.
