After The Gentlemen made its Netflix debut, it didn’t take long for viewers to be swept up into the unexpected journey of Eddie Horniman. Portrayed by Theo James, the story begins with Eddie learning that his late father’s estate has been passed down to him—earning him the reluctant title of Duke of Halstead. However, it’s what lies beneath the property that changes the trajectory of his life, for Eddie comes to learn that his father allowed for the operation of a massive underground cannabis empire. Before long, Eddie finds himself enmeshed in the criminal enterprise run by drug lord Bobby Glass and his daughter, Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario. With Season 2 having just hit screens, there’s much on the horizon for this crew as they embark on their next chapter, and with the series already renewed for Season 3, there’s talks of a certain someone with royal ties joining the cast. ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2 hits Netflix with big underground drama

On September 3, the second season of The Gentlemen debuted on Netflix, and fans are already chattering about the events that unfolded. In the second season, a year has passed since Eddie first came to be involved in this criminal underworld, and now, it’s safe to say he’s found his footing alongside Susie.

“By Season 2, he is a man very much at the helm of it, and he’s bought into the possibilities of what both worlds can bring him, both as an aristocrat and a criminal,” said Theo James of his character in conversation with Tudum. “That ignites a fiery ambition in him, and it also starts to move the ego. It gives him the ability to make decisions based on this idea of wanting more.”

As the duo work together to expand their operations, establishing themselves in Italy amongst a rather intimidating crew of crime bosses, Eddie is also grappling with the flawed moves orchestrated by Bobby from behind bars—and his desire to distance himself from him only grows stronger. Though Season 2 has only just hit the streamer (watch it here!), it’s the show’s third season that’s garnered a lot of attention for the rumors surrounding its casting. Over the last several weeks, stories began circulating that claimed Meghan Markle was in talks to play a role in the third season—and Theo James had a hilarious response.

Will Meghan Markle join ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 3 cast?

In 2018, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, making her the Duchess of Sussex. However, prior to her royal title, Markle had a successful acting career, one of her most notable roles being in the legal drama Suits. Meghan hasn’t acted since then, but Deadline initially broke the news that she was being eyed for a role.

In response to the rumors, Theo James shared a witty response when asked by Town & Country about a former royal joining the cast for Season 3. “Yes, Fergie is joining. She’ll be playing my love interest,” the actor joked, referring to Sarah Ferguson. He continued, “No, I think that was mainly a lot of hot air. At the moment, we’re just trying to get as many eyes on Season 2, and then Season 3 will happen soon. But in terms of story, we have the overarching ambition of where we’re going to go. We’re going to expand the world, go to different countries. But in terms of the minutiae, I mean, it’s still very much up in the air.”

Meghan Markle’s participation in the series might be speculation at the moment, but fans are still excited about the possibility. In the meantime, tune in to Season 2 of The Gentlemen on Netflix now.
