The Cast of CBS’ New Mockumentary Show ‘DMV’ Spills on the Comedy Show: ‘I Love It’
Everyone has trauma from the DMV, but this show is guaranteed to reverse all of that
If you love hit mockumentary shows like Parks & Rec, The Office, The Paper and Abbott Elementary, then we have some exciting news for you. CBS recently announced that, as part of their 2025 fall lineup, they will be releasing their own fake, hilarious mockocumentary series, DMV. Yes, you read that right—it’s going to be named after a place everyone has been to (and most likely has trauma from)—the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Below, we have more details on what you can expect from the show, including casting updates and when you’ll be able to watch it.
What to know about the ‘DMV’ TV show
DMV is going to be a mockumentary show that follows a group of people who work for minimum wage at a DMV based in East Hollywood, California. It was created by Dana Klein (Friends and Fresh Off The Boat) and inspired by Katherine Heiny’s short story Turn Signals and Turn-Ons at the DMV. It will be the first-ever primetime show primarily set at a government building responsible for things like driver’s licenses, vehicle inspections, vehicle registration and more.
“I’m in a sort of joyful daze about this news,” Heiny wrote on Instagram after the show was announced. “Ironically, it’s probably not safe for me to drive today.”

In a separate social media post also made on Instagram, Heiny opened up about where exactly the idea came from, writing, “This story was inspired by my trip to the DMV for Angus’ road test. Also, it seems like some part of my brain has been permanently given over to thinking about Ted Bundy.”
DMV Season 1 is expected to have 20 30-minute-long episodes, all of which will be filmed in the same style as shows like The Office and Abbott Elementary.
“It’s the job nobody wants, but the hangout you won’t want to miss,” the show’s logline reads.
‘DMV’ TV show cast
The DMV cast is truly a fun one, because most of the stars were relatively unknown prior to getting cast.
Harriet Dyer plays Colette, a driving examiner who has a big heart but struggles with bad judgment, while Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live, Peacemaker) is Gregg, a former English teacher. Additionally Vic, a former bouncer, is played by Tony Cavalero, with Alex Tarrant as Noa, a surfer who has a lot of potential; Gigi Zumbado as outspoken photographer Ceci and Molly Kearney as newly appointed DMV manager Barbara.

“Physical comedy keeps showing up for me, but I love it. I think the writers have been doing an awesome job writing jokes, but they’ve given all of us stuff. We did a human pyramid the other day and we did it with aplomb. We loved it,” Dyer said of the show, per Deadline. “The more we write the physical stuff, the more we get into it. I’m a theater kid, so I really, really like it and I probably lean into it, so maybe that’s why it keeps coming up.”
‘DMV’ TV show release date
DMV will air on CBS beginning on Monday, October 13. From there, it will continue to air on Monday nights until they hit the 20-episode mark. The show will also be available to stream on Paramount+ the following day.
