New ‘Outlander’ Season 8 Trailer Has Fans Crying—Frank Predicts Jamie’s Shocking Death
The final season premieres March 6 on Starz, and a devastating prediction threatens everything
Outlander first hit screens back in 2014 on Starz, and the television adaptation of the hit book series by Diana Gabaldon has been pulling us in year after year. Last January, the show’s seventh season concluded, and since then, fans have been awaiting the eighth and final installment of Outlander, premiering on March 6 on Starz. While what’s in store for Claire and Jamie remains uncertain, fans just got a glimpse at what’s to come in the official trailer for Season 8 released yesterday—and we can’t contain our excitement!
What is ‘Outlander’ Season 8 about?
Much has changed since the first season premiered, and this latest installment is sure to be full of emotion. Set against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War, the show’s official Season 8 logline teases plenty of drama—and potential heartbreak—for viewers at home. “A devastating prophecy, in the form of Frank Randall’s book predicting Jamie’s death, shakes the family to the core. Knowing they’ve been unable to alter history in the past, the Frasers grapple with the question of whether Jamie’s fate is sealed,” it reads. “As Season 8 begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together.”
This new season will consist of 10 episodes and will likely be based on the books Written in My Own Heart’s Blood and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, the eighth and ninth in the series.

‘Outlander’ Season 8 official trailer
Just yesterday, Starz released the official trailer for Season 8, and fans finally got a full, detailed look at what’s in store. “I have everything I never knew I wanted,” Claire begins in the preview in conversation with Jamie. “I hope you’ve had everything you wanted,” she continues. As revealed by Starz, in Season 8, Jamie and Claire learn from a book written by Frank that Jamie Fraser will die, and in the new trailer, Jamie reveals that his impending death will take place in a battle that takes place in about a year at a place called King’s Mountain. This revelation obviously comes as a shock, with Claire begging for their family to stay together. “The only way to truly protect you and everyone I love,” Jamie declares, “is to fight.” The trailer promises a season full of drama and, in true Outlander fashion, a bit of heartbreak.
How is the cast handling the end?
While fans are mourning the ending of this iconic series that has brought us romance, tears, angst and joy for over a decade, the end of the show has taken a toll on the cast who has brought it to life as well. In an interview with Collider, Sam Heughan detailed the emotional goodbyes that took place as they acted out this final hoorah.
“The last day was emotional, but so were the weeks, even months, beforehand. Sometimes there were things happening or emotions where I’d be like, ‘Where is this coming from? What is this?’ And you’d realize, ‘Oh, my God, it’s because we’re doing the last season.’ There were days like when we did the last final read-through where I was crying, but then the next day, I’d be good with it,” he shared. “You make your peace. And then, we kept getting reminded, throughout the show. There would be these moments where you were like, ‘Oh, this might be the last time that I work with this person, or the last time we see this location.’ There were multiple goodbyes. It was so draining.”
Is Season 8 really the end for ‘Outlander’?
As much as we wish it weren’t true, season 8 will be the final installment of Outlander—but don’t pout just yet! The show’s prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, has a second season on the way! And tune in on March 6 to see the beginning of Outlander’s final chapter.
