With the second season set to premiere on ABC at 10 p.m. after Dancing With the Stars, catch up on last season and find out what you can expect to unfold on your screen this evening.
What happened in ‘High Potential’ Season 1? Kaitlin Olson’s amazing journey
The debut season of High Potential introduces Morgan, played by Olson, a single mom of three who works as a janitor at the Los Angeles Police Department. One night while cleaning, she knocks over a box of evidence and—thanks to her stellar IQ and natural problem-solving instincts—manages to put the pieces together and draw a conclusion the crime-solving professionals were unable to. Although at first her intervention is looked down upon, given that she technically tampered with evidence, her skill is evident, and soon enough, she’s brought on as a civilian consultant. Though her style might clash with that of her partner, Detective Karadec, the help she lends to the police department is hard to deny, making her an asset to this crew of crime solvers.

“I wanted to create a character that was very well-rounded, and there’s a lot going on in her life, she’s always overwhelmed,” Olson told Deadline. “There’s always a lot going on in her brain, and sometimes she’s able to laugh at herself. She definitely feels fine making fun of people, especially when they’re underestimating her, so there’s comedy in that. That’s just human nature. I think that the best character-driven dramatic pieces of material, whether it’s TV or movies, have comedy sprinkled in, because that’s life. There are funny moments and there are snarky things to be said that can be funny, and you have to be able to laugh in dark times. That’s just the way the world works, it’s also just more fun to watch.”
What will ‘High Potential’ Season 2 be about? New mysteries revealed
In Season 1, several plot lines were introduced that will continue to bleed into the second season. For starters, the whereabouts of Morgan’s daughter Ava’s dad, Roman, were explored, after his disappearance over a decade prior changed the trajectory of both Morgan and Ava’s lives. Over the course of the first season, we learn that maybe there was more to his disappearance after all. In the second season, we’ll also continue to see the Game Maker make his presence known, posing a growing threat to both the LAPD as well as Morgan’s family and personal life.
