Obsessed with Wordle? Jimmy Fallon’s TV Adaptation Is Coming—Here’s What We Know!
NBC’s turning Wordle into a primetime game show with Jimmy Fallon and Savannah Guthrie!
If you were one of the 5 billion people who obsessed over The New York Times’ daily Wordle puzzle last year, we have exciting news! NBC is adapting the addictive word game and bringing it to your living room as a TV show!
The beloved brain puzzle game is coming to television, thanks to NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and Savannah Guthrie. Here’s everything we know about this exciting new series!
What to know about the Wordle game show
The project, which is still in the works, will be produced by Jimmy Fallon through his production company, Electric Hot Dog. The company is joining forces with Universal Television Alternative Studio, which is set to produce the pilot for NBC.
Filming for the game show will take place in the United Kingdom, a departure from Fallon’s usual stateside productions.
While many details of the show are still under wraps, you can expect the same fun, entertaining energy Fallon brings to all his shows. In fact, Fallon has played a live version of Wordle on The Tonight Show. While it’s unclear if the TV adaptation will follow that format, fans can likely expect a similar interactive experience.
A quick refresher on Wordle
For those who may not know about Wordle, the game is an enjoyable brain puzzle. Players are given six chances to guess a five-letter word. When you place a letter correctly, the tile turns green. If a letter you guess appears in the puzzle but not in the slot placed, the tile turns yellow. Any if you guess a letter that’s not in the word, the tile turns gray.
The game was created in 2021 by Josh Wardle, a software engineer, and it was an immediate success. With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping everyone indoors, millions of folks were playing the game daily. In 2022, The New York Times acquired the game for a seven-figure price tag and the game’s popularity only grew, with over 5 billion plays in 2024.
Wordle’s dream team: Jimmy Fallon and Savannah Guthrie

Fallon has also hosted and produced several additional shows, including On Brand with Jimmy Fallon, Password and That’s My Jam.
Savannah Guthrie has also been a longtime member of the NBC family. She joined the TODAY show in 2011 as cohost for the show’s third hour. The former lawyer was also NBC News’ chief legal correspondent. A year later she became co-anchor of the TODAY show and in 2017, she teamed up with Hoda Kotb, after the departure of Matt Lauer. They were the first female duo to lead the show.
