Applebee’s Launches New $9.99 Really BIG Meal Deal with Sandwich, Fries and Drink
This much food would normally cost you three times the price!
Amid rising prices and inflation, there’ve been plenty of low-priced meal deals from fast food giants— from Dunkin’s $6 meal deal to McDonald’s $5 meal deal. But now dine-in restaurants are joining in on the fun: like Applebee’s, which is offering its new Really Big Meal Deal for a limited time.
For just $9.99, the restaurant chain gives you a choice of the new Big Cluckin’ hand-breaded chicken sandwich or Big Classic Bacon Cheeseburger, along with a side of French fries and a fountain drink. The deal is available for dine-in customers as well as to-go or delivery orders.
“Big in size, flavor, and value, our new Really Big Meal Deal can’t be beat,” Chief Marketing Officer Joel Yashinsky said in a statement. “From Classic to Cluckin’, our Really Big Meal Deal offers guests variety, with both a savory hand-crafted burger and new hand-breaded chicken sandwich, served with classic fries, and a fountain drink for only $9.99. We know our guests are going to love this unbeatable value meal!”
For classic lovers, the BIG Classic Bacon Cheeseburger features a juicy all-beef patty topped with two slices of American Cheese, two strips of Applewood-smoked bacon, served with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on a Brioche bun. The Big Cluckin’ chicken sandwich, which is a new item on the Applebee’s menu, includes hand-breaded chicken breast stacked with shredded lettuce, pickles, tomato, and mayo, on a toasted Brioche bun.
This new sandwich is just one of many new menu items to be offered since Shannon Johnson was named vice president of culinary in 2023. The company has been testing out delicious chicken sandwich options, such as the bacon cheddar crispy chicken sandwich, the bacon ranch crispy chicken and the sweet & spicy crispy chicken sandwich.
“Get ready to fall in love with our gold-standard, new hand-breaded chicken sandwiches,” Johnson said upon their release earlier this year. “Big, bold, juicy – and crispy – these chicken sandwiches are packed with flavor and available in three delicious iterations, sure to satisfy all our guests’ cravings.”
Why Applebee’s is offering the $9.99 Really Big Meal Deal
The new promotion comes after the chain realized it was missing out on the new “value environment,” and noticed a decline in sales. The deal is available in an effort to refine its offer strategy.
CEO of Dine Brands (which owns Applebee’s), John Peyton, explained the company’s reason in more depth. “Our learning is that we’ve got to meet guests where they are, and the guest definition and expectation of value shifted over the last couple of quarters. They started to focus on the total cost of the meal and … It became clear that guests want to know the total cost of dining in a restaurant for argument’s sake – the cost of your sandwich plus fries and a drink.”
And it seems this won’t be the last time you see a promotion like this from the chain. Peyton has explained that consistency is key, especially for continuous customers.
“I believe significant upside exists when paired with the consistency, simplicity, and all-encompassing value we know our guests want and our brands are capable of delivering,” Peyton said. “We’re applying our learnings to this with a shift to more full meal value offers and we’ll continue to evolve our value propositions to keep our guests engaged.”
