Alongside the free coffee, Starbucks also announced that it would donate $200,000 split evenly between the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project to support military communities and veterans.

“We are proud to partner with Starbucks this Veterans Day to honor our nation’s heroes and retired Lieutenant General Walk Piatt, CEO of Wounded Warrior Project, said in the press release. “Supporters like Starbucks help us keep the promise to always be there for those who bravely served, including their families and caregivers.

“Our free programs and services in mental and brain health, career counseling, benefits, physical health and wellness, advocacy and long-term rehabilitative care are changing and saving lives every day, thanks to partners like Starbucks and generous supporters across the country.”

Steve Schwab, CEO of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, echoed similar thoughts, saying, “At the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, we are committed to honoring and supporting those who care for our wounded Veterans and service members.”

“With this partnership, Starbucks underscores its deep commitment to improving the lives of America’s military and veteran families and recognizing the vital role caregivers play in support of wounded warriors.”

Starbucks’s history with the military

Over the years, Starbucks has made quite a name for itself in supporting both active military members and veterans. According to the company, they have hired over 40,0000 veterans and military spouses since 2013. They have also gone on to support the community through their new relocation services.

Another thing the coffee company has done is open up various Starbucks Military Family Stores across the country.

According to the company, these “serve as central gathering places for active military personnel, veterans, their families and surrounding communities.”

“Located on and near major military bases, these stores provide connections and support for military families by advancing veteran causes, bridging the civilian-military divide and partnering with Veterans Service Organizations.”

Currently, the company has over 100 Starbucks Military Family Stores and plans to open 250 by 2025. In the past, they have also given away free coffee on Veterans Day.

“Starbucks’s deep respect and commitment to our military and Veteran communities extends well beyond free coffee on Veterans Day,” AJ Jones II, the executive vice president of corporate affairs and executive sponsor of Starbucks Armed Forces Partner Network, said. “From our Military Family Store model to accelerating hiring in the community and supporting the transition from military to civilian careers, these are the foundation to our continued work in strengthening communities and supporting our military,”

“On this Veterans Day, we thank all those who have served and their supporting families.”
