Lately, a drink called fluffy coke has gone viral as it takes the beloved soft drink and combines it with marshmallow fluff. This creates a drink that’s sweet and boasts a similar creaminess to an ice cream float. What is a fluffy coke?
This drink consists of three ingredients: Coca-Cola, marshmallow fluff and ice. The marshmallow fluff is placed inside of the cup before it’s filled with ice and the soda. Afterwards, the drink is ready to stir and sip. Adding the marshmallow fluff is supposed to make it airy since it’s made by whipping egg whites, sugar and other ingredients until it’s thick and voluminous. TikTok creator Emma Grace (@not.eg) is credited with kick-starting this drink trend in early July thanks to a viral video filmed with her grandmother. The two prepare the drink and then try it on camera. “I could drink like four of these,” Grace said as both of them enjoyed the drink.
Online reactions to the fluffy coke drink
The reactions to this drink after trying it have been divided. A taste tester from the Kanpai Foods YouTube Channel called it “meh”, while @MixitMcGree said “it tastes just like Coke” before questioning if she made the drink wrong. Another YouTuber @Carsonlight made this drink with diet Coke and crowned it as “the perfect little 3 p.m. treat to get you through the afternoon.”
Anna Arriaga, a content and social intern at Food52, took a completely different approach by topping the drink with a sweetened oat milk foam to create a dirty soda. “I think everyone needs to tap into dirty sodas,” she said. It’s basically when you add syrup and milk to a soda. Kind of making it like a fancy latte but without an espresso base.” She added that people in the food publication’s office liked this version of the drink.
These mixed reactions aren’t uncommon when it comes to viral food and drink recipes. Though, when it comes to fluffy coke, it gives you plenty of reason to whip up this drink and see if it could become one of your go-to sips.
How to make fluffy coke
This three-ingredient Fluffy Coke recipe is accompanied by a video from TikTok creator Brianna Ancheta (@briannaancheta). While a regular can of Coke works fine for this drink, the diet variety or other soft drinks like Pepsi and Dr Pepper can be used too. It’s also worth experimenting with this drink by mixing in a splash of brewed coffee for an extra caffeine kick or a dash of cinnamon for a hint of spice. - 1 (12 fl oz.) can Cocoa-Cola or other dark soft drink
- Marshmallow fluff
- Ice
Directions:
- Yield: 1 drink
- Spread layer of marshmallow fluff inside tall glass.
