Twelve-Year-Old Delivers Her Baby Brother, Proving She’s Braver Than Most Dads

In the old days, husbands used to wait in a nearby bar while their wife gave birth. Today, men aren’t as shy about being in the delivery room, but if you ask them to reach in and literally help deliver their child and you might get a firm “No, thank you.” Good thing there are young girls like Jacee ready to step up to the plate.

At only 12-years-old, Jacee Dellapena might be one of the bravest preteens we know. When Jacee’s brother Zadyn was born 18 months earlier, Jacee argued her case for being allowed in the delivery room, but at the time her mom, Dede Carraway, told her she wasn’t old enough. This time around, Jacee was determined to be there.

When Dede’s hospital bed was converted, Jacee was upset because she thought she would be too short to to see the delivery over the bed. Dr. Walter Wolfe took notice and suggested that Jacee suit up and participate in delivering her baby brother. Dede said as long as Jacee’s stepfather was okay with it, she was too. “Go for it Jacee!” he said.

With her stepfather’s permission and what must have been an ear-to-ear grin, Jacee helped out through it all. “Dr. Wolfe actually put her hands on the inside of his and allowed her to do the entire delivery,” Dede wrote on Facebook. “Although the pain from the contractions and the pushing hurt me so bad… watching Jacee’s expressions on her face were like no other.”

Fortunately, this story has a very, very, very happy ending. Dr. Wolfe, with Jacee’s help, delivered baby Cayson, and Jacee even cut the umbilical cord. After the experience, Jacee has found her calling in life; she wants to be an OBGYN.

“We were all very emotional and it was like no feeling I’ve ever felt. it’s not every day your eldest child at 12 years old gets to deliver your last child,” said Dede.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Dede said, “I was in some serious pain and her being down there and being able to focus on her, it helped a whole lot. It was amazing.” According to Dede, Jacee’s presence was a serious pain reliever, as Dede’s epidural stopped working during the delivery.

You go, Jacee! We’re so happy that mom, son, and daughter are all happy, healthy, and safe.
