A puppy can brighten anyone’s day, but for 11-year-old Elijah, his new furry friend did much more than that—it fulfilled a dream. Battling a brain tumor, Elijah’s wish to have a corgi puppy came true, thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. In a heartwarming video, his instant bond with Tucker, a black, brown and white corgi, is a moment of pure joy you won’t want to miss.
Immediately upon meeting Tucker, Elijah is consumed with joy, bending over and crying at just how overwhelmed with emotion he is. “I love you,” Elijah exclaimed repeatedly in the heartwarming video in which he’s surrounded by loved ones. “Thank you guys for making his wish come true,” said a little boy standing alongside him in the video.
“Elijah has always dreamed of having a puppy and he knew exactly the type of dog he wanted,” Make-a-Wish Nebraska wrote in the post shared to their Instagram account. They continued, “We’re excited to share that Elijah’s wish came true this past weekend when his Wish Granters surprised him and introduced him to his new furry friend, Tucker!!” Many viewers took to the comments of the post to share their love for Elijah and Tucker.
“So happy for you Elijah!!! Wow! That tickled my heart,” wrote one Instagram user. “Best non-prof! So pure! If this doesn’t melt your heart…,” said another. “Who cut the onions!”
The mission behind Make-a-Wish: Transforming lives one wish at a time
The Make-a-Wish Foundation first began back in 1980 when a young boy named Christopher James Greicius was fighting a battle with leukemia. With dreams of becoming a police officer, those in his local Phoenix community turned his aspirations into a reality by giving him the experience of a lifetime. Since then, this foundation has been granting wishes to children fighting critical illnesses in the hopes that these moments of bliss and joy give them a push to fight harder.
“For children diagnosed with critical illnesses, a wish come true can be a crucial turning point in their lives,” says their official site. “A wish can be that spark that helps these children believe that anything is possible and gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses. This impact is why we are driven to make every one of these wishes come true.”
According to their site, a wish is granted to a child in need every 33 minutes with the help of countless volunteers and donors supporting the nonprofit. Want to get involved? Visit their site to learn more about how you can make an impact.
