The Costco App is Getting a Major Upgrade—Soon You Can Order Cakes and Deli Trays From Your Phone!
The beloved warehouse retailer is finally trading in-store paper forms for stress-free online orders
When you’re hosting a large gathering, Costco is the place to shop for affordable party essentials in bulk. From frozen appetizers and hors d’oeuvres to high-quality meats and sides, the warehouse retailer has everything you could need. Two of the most helpful resources for hosts have always been the deli and bakery departments—but until now, placing custom orders has been a bit old-fashioned.
Previously, ordering custom cakes or sandwich platters meant visiting your local warehouse in person. Instead of speaking directly with staff, shoppers had to fill out a paper form with all their specifications, slip it into a box and hope the order didn’t get misplaced. While this system worked, it wasn’t exactly convenient—especially compared to other retailers that allow fully online customization.
But now, Costco is finally stepping up its game by launching a new element in the app that will allow shoppers to order ahead of time, customizing orders right from their phone. “We’ve got ordering cakes and deli trays online coming. So many of the things that we’ve heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state, and we’re seeing great adoption right out of the chute,” Costco CEO Ron Vachris noted, as reported by the New York Post.

Costco cake order made easy
Whether you’re planning a birthday, baby shower or holiday party, ordering a cake from Costco is easier than ever. The bakery section offers options like a 10-inch round cake feeding 16 or a half-sheet cake feeding around 48 people. You can select flavors, fillings, and icing—vanilla with cheesecake mousse, chocolate with chocolate mousse, and more. The Costco app also lets you choose designs like balloons, roses, or rainbows, and add personalized messages. Pickup dates and times can be scheduled seamlessly within the app, eliminating the paper forms and uncertainty of the past.
Simplified party platters and deli trays
Deli orders are equally simple. With the Costco app, shoppers can select from party platters such as croissant sandwiches, chicken and Swiss rollers, shrimp cocktail or meat and cheese assortments. All specifications, including quantity and pickup time, can soon be managed digitally, giving hosts more control and less hassle.
What to expect from the Costco app update
The upcoming feature will be accessible under the “Order Grocery/Bakery” section of the Costco app. While an exact launch date hasn’t been announced, the update is clearly on the horizon. Once live, you’ll be able to place custom cake and party platter orders with just a few taps—freeing up your time to focus on what matters most: making memories with family and friends.
