Over the last few weeks, one of Costco’s newest desserts has gone viral: its mini beignets. The circular, pillowy pockets are dusted with powdered sugar and stuffed with either a chocolatey, Nutella-like filling or a sweet, gooey caramel filling—and once you start tasting them, it’s hard not to eat the entire container! Though these baked goods are nothing short of delicious, they’re unfortunately at the center of a recall that has just escalated to an urgent level. Here, read all about the latest Costco recall of their mini beignets.

Why Costco recalled the mini beignets

Though Costco shoppers have been raving over this latest addition to the bakery section, the warehouse initiated a recall when it was discovered that packages meant to only contain caramel-filled beignets actually contained chocolate-hazelnut-filled beignets as well. That being said, the packaging did not indicate that the products inside contained hazelnut, putting those with potential allergies at great risk. According to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) enforcement report, a total of 8,073 packages were affected by this error. These packages, labeled Kirkland Signature Mini Beignets Filled With Caramel, have an item number of #1181272. The UPC is 000011 812722. These products can be identified by their clear plastic container, containing 22 donuts. The pack dates on these items are between January 16 and January 30, 2026, with sell-by dates falling between January 19 and February 2, 2026. The packaging also labels allergens including wheat, egg, milk and soy, but fails to mention tree nuts.

Hazelnut allergy symptoms: What happens if you eat recalled beignets

If you are allergic or have a sensitivity to hazelnuts and accidentally consume a chocolate hazelnut beignet included in the caramel beignet package, the consequences can be dire. Symptoms can be milder, such as itchy lips and mouth, or can be as severe as anaphylaxis. If you have a hazelnut allergy or sensitivity and accidentally consume a chocolate hazelnut beignet from a mislabeled caramel beignet package, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately.

The good news? Costco is making it easy to return affected products for a full refund, and by staying informed, you’re already taking the right steps to keep you and your family safe.
