Touching Photo of Kirk Douglas Gazing Tenderly at Great-Granddaughter Proves Love Knows No Age
Beloved actor Kirk Douglas has held a lot of roles in his 101 years, but his newest — great-grandfather — just might be his sweetest. The acting legend’s grandson, Cameron (son of Michael Douglas), recently shared a sweet photo of a tender moment between his daughter and her great-grandfather, and our hearts are melting.
In the moving black-and-white photo, Kirk Douglas’ eight-month-old great-granddaughter reaches for his hand. The Douglas family patriarch has his fingers spread, waiting for the tiny tot to grab on.
Cameron Douglas and his girlfriend, Viviane Thibes, welcomed their daughter, Lua Izzy, on December 18, 2017. Lua’s middle name is actually a tribute to her great-grandfather, whose birth name is Issur Danielovitch. Kirk Douglas posed for a photo with his newborn great-granddaughter and Cameron shortly after Lua’s birth, so it’s amazing to see how much she’s grown in less than a year.
“Today my appreciation for mothers all over the world has reached new height. Today I took part in a miracle as my baby girl was introduced to the world through a beautiful Amazon warrior,” Cameron wrote at the time. Michael is just as smitten with Lua as the other Douglas men, gushing that “Lua is the most beautiful little girl. I couldn’t be more happy, and it’s just great to see him be such a great father.”
Apart from Cameron, Kirk Douglas has two other grandchildren from his son’s current marriage to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones: 18-year-old Dylan, and 15-year-old Carys. Hearing him talk about his family — especially his beloved wife, Anne — is proof of how much he values his loved ones.
“Being married to the right woman in very important. Michael and Catherine have two very bright, fantastic kids, Dylan and Carys,” the centenarian told Parade in 2014. “I’m sure that they are both going to be actors. Their mother, father, and grandfather are actors, and Dylan considers himself an actor and takes the lead in his school plays.”
As for whether Dylan, Carys, and now Lua will carry on the family tradition of getting into showbiz, one thing’s for sure: They’ll always have the love and support of their family.
