For many dog owners, their furry friend is part of the family. 19-year-old Jake Ostrowski is no different. So when the college-bound teen was packing his belongings for school, he was understandably upset he couldn’t take his golden retriever Jesse along with him.

But then, Jake’s mom Sharla came up with an absolutely genius solution.

She surprised him with a life-size and painstakingly accurate cardboard cutout of Jesse, right before he left for Texas Tech.

Jake was ecstatic.

He said, “I’m sure anyone would love a cardboard cutout of their dog.”

Jake was still a little nervous about starting college, but now he knows he’s not going through it alone.

“Now, I’ve got my dog in my dorm with me,” he said.
