This Cast Iron Pot Makeover Is One For the Books

The cast iron pot was in horrendous shape. Anyone with eyes could see that–even the woman who was selling it as part of her yard sale. She said flat out that she didn’t think that the cooking ware could be saved.

But Reddit user Sandytoo just saw a cast iron pot makeover ready to happen.

So she purchased the $5 item from its skeptical former owner and went straight to work. After all, the cast iron pot was more than a foot across, so if in fact it could be rescued, she could certainly get some good use out of it.

And oh, boy, is she about to do just that. Not only was she able to clean it–it looks good as new!

We'll admit it: We were a bit skeptical that this cast iron pot could ever be salvaged. After all, we can practically smell the rust from here!

And yes, just in case you were wondering, the inside of the cast iron pot was just as bad in terms of the rust. At least it looks like there's an even coating to work with?

Rust begone! To lift the crusty coating, she used a wire brush drill attachment to sand down the cast iron pot. We can only imagine how long it must have taken to get it all off.

Sure enough, the tool did the trick and the cast iron pot started looking surprisingly fresh after the intense technique. But her work was far from done.

She then took the cast iron pot back inside the house and greased the whole thing with a copious amount of lard from top to bottom. Reminds us of a smellier version of getting our cars washed!

And yes, she greased the lid all over with lard, too. Then, the cast iron pot was ready to pop in the oven for a few rounds of baking--but no food added quite yet!

She did two seasoning rounds of the cast iron pot in the oven. Completely covered in lard, the pot was baked at 350 degrees each time.

Then, it was time for her to do two more rounds in the oven. Only then could she unleash the final product of the salvaged cast iron pot.

Wow! She says she can't wait to use it, and after seeing what she went through to fix it, we certainly believe her. On a final note, we're SERIOUSLY impressed!
