You Can Host Family Dinner in a Giant Edible Gingerbread House This Year
If it’s always been your dream to eat a meal inside an edible house, your dream is about to become a reality. Great Wolf Lodge hotels around the country are now offering sweets lovers everywhere the chance to dine inside a giant gingerbread house (and yes, it’s edible).
Starting November 25, Great Wolf Lodge will open the houses inside their hotel locations to families who want to take the holiday season festivities to the next level.
The gingerbread houses, which typically seat about six people but can seat up to 10 in select locations, are held together with 600 pound of cookie dough and intricately decorated with more than 5,000 pieces of candy. And as if the completely edible exterior of the house wasn’t impressive enough, it turns out the interior of the structure is totally edible as well.
They’re a labor of love by devoted and hard-working pastry chefs that dedicate up to two weeks bringing these magical creations to life. Wow — we thought it took long enough putting together regular-size gingerbread houses in our kitchens.
But clearly, it look like the extra effort and time put into them is more than worth it for the guests.
Great Wolf Lodge started the tradition back in 2011, and it’s clear that since then it’s become quite the phenomenon. Each hotel creates a unique design — some with themes from popular movies, and others with more traditional layout. But they’re all beautiful.
If you’re interested in dining in one of these houses this season, you can make a booking on the Great Wolf Lodge website for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring food from the Lodge Wood Fired Grill. There is a surcharge if you dine in one of the houses, ranging from $10 to $20, but that goes to charity proceeds donated to the Ronald McDonald House. So rest assured it’s going to a good cause!
Would you dine inside one of these sweet creations? Or do you think food is better left on the plate and nowhere else? Take a peak inside and see what you think:
