This Single Mom Spent Her Entire Tax Return On One Thing

A nice, hefty tax return in February is always a welcome gift. Some moms decide to put it in their kid’s college fund. Other parents decide it’s time to finally update the kitchen. You might even treat yourself to a little shopping spree. But not this mom. She spent her entire tax return in just seconds–on one thing.

“I got back $5,600,” Christina Knaack wrote on her Facebook. And it’s what she did with the money that has parents everywhere applauding. “Instead of buying my kids the latest Jordans or fancy electronics I paid my rent for the YEAR.”

And why shouldn’t she deserve praise for her actions? Paying rent on time and in full for two people can be difficult, so we can only imagine what sacrifices a single mom makes to keep her children housed, happy, and fed on minimum wage.

“I’m a single mom and I do it all buy myself on a minimum wage job. I know that a roof over my kids’ heads is what’s important. My kids don’t want for anything because my priorities are straight. And this also means I will have that extra $450 a month to do things with my kids.”

“Good for you. I also was a single mom and I know how difficult to make that monthly rent. God bless,” someone commented.

Even though Knaack did receive hateful comments from people accusing her of posting the photo for attention, she was inspired by the outpouring of kindness to explain exactly why wrote the post.

Knaack is a recovering drug addict, and this January she celebrated three years clean. She understands what it’s like to try and recover from an addition. Plus, she’s dealt with all the additional struggles of being a single parent.

“I made it public so…others could see it in hopes a recovering addict would see it and see that life off the streets is possible, and for any single moms to know it is possible to survive on your own. As long as my post has inspired people I’m happy with that.”

What an amazing example she has set for her kids! You go, Christina!
