Because we adore the furry family members in our own homes, it’s only natural to wonder how many other folks snuggle up with the same type of kitty. Well, we think you’ll be delighted to know that The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) has compiled a list of the most popular purr-fect pals in the nation.

Based on data from the CFA’s registration statistics, the list of most popular cat breeds includes 42 different types of cats. Of course, we love kitties of all shades, shapes, and sizes, but only five of them could reach the very top of the list. That’s why we’re zooming in on what makes those cats in particular so lovable and widely adored.

As one might expect from a kitty with a British background, this little fluffball is pretty reserved at first. But once you win a British shorthair over, this cat will shower you with affection. In terms of companionship, a British shorthair cat is famous for being dignified, sweet, and intelligent. It doesn't hurt that these cats' rounded and fluffy features make them look like they're always smiling. What more could anyone ever want from a cat?

Though really, who couldn't adore this plush fur? It's too soft and adorable for words!
