Twice a Day, This Man Does the Sweetest Thing Ever for His Late Wife
We love a good love story–especially one about a romance that never ends.
Jake Reissig, 86, was married to his late wife, Elizabeth, for a long-lasting 65 years. After she died, he began visiting her grave every day and bringing her a rose from his rose garden. But one day this summer, he noticed something that worried him.
The area in Texas where he lives was facing a severe drought, and as the grass around her grave began to turn crispy and brown, Reissig became concerned that it would dry up. So, he decided to take a hose and water the lawn around her stone twice a day.
It makes sense that he wanted his sweetheart’s gravesite to remain beautiful and well-kept.
“Liz,” as he calls her, was always “dressed to the tee,” one of the couple’s nine children, Roger, told CBS News. “She was beautiful to him.
And it’s not just his wife’s burial place this kind-hearted man showers with special attention. Nearby is the grave of a fallen staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, Joseph Villasenor. Reissig befriended the late man’s sister one day as she visited the cemetery, and he decided to add another task to his to-do list: water Villasenor’s gravesite, too.
“He’s just a giving person,” said Roger, who occasionally goes with his dad to water the lawn.
Somehow, this one sweet man’s loving gestures managed to both warm our hearts and bring tears to our eyes.
