My father has always been a touchstone in my life. For every moment of my childhood, I can remember my dad there cheering me on.

Fast-forward 40 years, and my dad passed away after a prolonged illness. I was in a fog of grief for months.

I’ve always marveled at the stories in the Woman’s World “My Guardian Angel” column when loved ones were comforted by birds, butterflies, a special song or scent, and they just knew it was a message from their loved one. I wanted to know my dad was okay and prayed for a sign. I prayed for a big, obvious sign so that I couldn’t miss it.

I went to the cemetery on his birthday with my daughter. I was grateful for the wonderful day, and the relationship I had with my father. The tears flowed freely and easily.

As we were leaving, I was thinking about the sign that I had prayed for, and I hoped I didn’t miss it. I pulled out of the small parking lot very slowly.

As we were approaching the first cross street, a car came rolling up behind me so fast it startled me as I was going so slowly. For just a second, I thought I saw the license plate and it said JERRY. That’s my dad’s name!

Since I wasn’t sure of what I thought I saw, I slowed down even more when the car pulled behind me, so that I could see the license plate in the rearview mirror. I was right—it said JERRY!

At just the second I realized that the plate was JERRY, a deer ran across the road in front of me. If I had been going any faster, the deer would’ve hit me or I would’ve hit the deer. I slammed on the brakes, even though I was barely moving, and caught my breath.

It dawned on me that I got my big sign, and I felt so blessed. My dad was still looking out for me, and he delivered the message. It gave me peace in my grief. It’s a blessing to have a tangible, real experience that connects us, knowing that the love is still there!

“Tina’s experience reminds us of the connection we share with our loved ones, even after they’ve passed,” says Sunny Dawn Johnson, a global authority on the angelic realm, with a portfolio of 22 books, including popular titles such as Invoking the Archangels, The Love Never Ends, and 365 Days of Angel Prayers. “Asking for a sign and receiving something so personal—like her father’s name on a license plate—can bring tremendous comfort. Signs like these show us that our loved ones are never far away, still protecting us from the other side. These messages often come when we need them most, providing us with peace, reassurance and a reminder that love transcends the physical world. Keep your heart open to receiving these beautiful reminders.”
