How Divine Intervention Saved My Father’s Life: A Family’s Story of Miracles and Gratitude
An unexpected visit from a doctor saved my dad—and showed us the power of unseen forces

My parents were together for 65 years. They made it through countless good times and bad times. My mother used to tell a story of a particularly bad experience where she felt that divine intervention saved my father’s life. My parents had three daughters. Two of them joined the Marine Corps, and all three of us eventually married Marines and had families in other states.
One summer, everyone traveled home for a family reunion. My dad, while tidying the farm where they lived, got a burn on his arm from his chainsaw. He bandaged it up and thought no more about it. The reunion was at a nearby campground. We had a picnic and went swimming in the lake.
The next day, his burn appeared to be infected. The family doctor was away on vacation, so he was referred to someone else and given a shot of antibiotics. The next day, the burn looked even worse. He took another trip to the doctor, and the doctor said the shot had missed the vein. So, he was given another shot of antibiotics. The next day, he was even worse, so he was admitted to the hospital. They placed him in quarantine and gave him more antibiotics. He continued to worsen with swelling and a rash.
My mom was at her wits’ end. The doctor seemed baffled, and we were all worried that he could lose his life! Mom was visiting him on a Saturday when their regular doctor walked into my dad’s room. He was still on vacation and had no reason to be at the hospital. He took one look at my dad and said, “You are allergic to the antibiotics!”
Needless to say, my father made a rapid recovery.
My mother believed there was divine intervention that day that urged the doctor to make a stop at the hospital. Whoever sent that doctor there that day ended up saving my father’s life!
