Over the years, people have often asked me if I believe that pets go to Heaven when they pass away. My answer is now a resounding, “Yes, they do.”

On August 12, 2023, my husband of 63 years went to be with our Lord. It was a peaceful departure—while I was reading to him, he simply went to sleep and journeyed home.

Then, on June 14, 2024, my son had to make the difficult decision to put down Sugar, their little dog of 18 years. Sugar had been struggling with blindness, deafness and “doggy dementia” for over four years. Despite the relief CBD provided, it was a losing battle.

On that day, Sugar went to sleep for the final time at the veterinarian’s office. Just two days later, on Sunday, June 16, 2024, I was sitting in church, immersed in the hymn “Thank You, God.”

As I sang, a vision suddenly filled my mind’s eye. I saw the pearly gates of Heaven, shimmering with divine light. Running toward the gates was Sugar, not as the ailing elderly dog she had been, but as a vibrant, joyful puppy.

Her tail wagged furiously as she ran as fast as her little legs could carry her toward the gates.

In an instant, she bounded through them and straight into my young husband’s waiting arms.

He was 83 when he went to be with the Lord, but in the vision, he looked around 30 years old.

He had bent down to catch her, and his face was illuminated with a huge, joyous smile. He held her tight, hugging her with the same love and affection he had always shown her. Sugar’s arrival had clearly filled him with immense happiness.

Witnessing this scene filled me with profound joy and comfort. Tears of happiness welled up in my eyes every time I recalled that vision. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for those happy thoughts and the peace they brought me.
