Debbi and I lived in a 55+ retirement community. My husband and I, although well below the normal age of retirement, decided that due to our health, it was time to enjoy life. Debbi was just a few months older than me, and as block captain, she tried to draw me into our block’s activities.

As we became friends, I hooked her onto an online word game that I played virtually with other friends.

The game has a sidebar where players can chat with each other, and there was not a day that went by that we did not enjoy the game—but mostly the chats, especially during the COVID isolation.

Debbi was traveling out of state for Christmas with her husband to see her daughter, her family and her brand-new baby granddaughter. She was so excited to see the new baby.

Two days before Christmas, I noticed that Debbi was not playing or chatting, but I thought she was just busy.

On Christmas, I sent a Merry Christmas chat, but still did not hear from her.

The day after Christmas, Debbi’s husband called me. I knew something was wrong because he asked me to sit down.

He told me that Debbi, at 66, had died of an aneurysm two days before Christmas. She collapsed at their daughter’s house. I was devastated.

Not long after Debbi passed, it was difficult for me to see her name on the game, so I wrote her one last chat telling her how much I missed her, what an amazing person she was and that I was honored that she was part of my life. Then I decided to delete our open game.

A month later, I opened the game, and saw Debbi’s name pop back up under the friends who were playing, which is impossible. I knew Debbi was sending me a message to tell me not to be sad and carry on. Now I know she’s okay and will always be with me!

“Nancy’s experience is a beautiful example of how those we love can send us signs to let us know they are okay after they’ve passed,” says Sunny Dawn Johnson, a global authority on the angelic realm, with a portfolio of 22 books, including popular titles such as Invoking the Archangels, The Love Never Ends, and 365 Days of Angel Prayers. “When she saw Debbi’s name pop up in the word game, it was a powerful reminder that their connection hadn’t ended, even though Debbi was no longer physically present. These moments offer comfort, reminding us that our loved ones are still with us in spirit, guiding us and letting us know that they are at peace. Trust in these signs—they are a reminder that love never truly fades, even in the afterlife.”
