We’ve all got a medicine cabinet full of medicine, creams, supplements and ointments, but if you’ve got small children or grandkids running around your house with access to your medicine cabinet, you might want to take a look at the items in t here. Last week, Mamisan Pain Relieving Topical Ointment was recalled by Plantimex over the risk of child poisoning. Here, read all there is to know about this ointment recall, who is at risk and what to do next.

Mamisan Cream recall: What to look for

Mamisan Pain Relieving Topical Ointment is a commonly used pain relieving topical treatment. It’s sold at stores like Walmart and Target—but if you’ve grabbed this product in the past 12 months, you may want to do some damage control. The ointment, which contains 4% lidocaine and 1% menthol, is being recalled because it violates the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Because the product contains lidocaine, it must be sold in child-resistant packaging and being that this particular product does not abide by those standards, Plantimex is recalling over 50,000 units.

The Mamisan Pain Relieving Topical Ointment being recalled was sold in 3.52-ounce plastic jars with an orange label. The lid, which violates the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, is a continuous thread lid made of white plastic and on the top is the Mamisan trademark. The recalled jars have a UPC code of 860006498115.

Where recalled Mamisan Cream was sold

Between April 2024 and October 2025, the recalled Mamisan Pain Relieving Topical Ointment was sold at Target and Walmart, as well as on the Target website.

What to do if you’ve purchased the recalled Mamisan Ointment

Since the recall was due to improper packaging, the product itself is safe to use. However, the recall advises consumers to move the jars to a place where children cannot get access to it. From there, you should contact Planitmex, who will provide you with a free replacement lid. Once the lid has been replaced, you can continue to use the ointment as directed. While there haven’t yet been any reported injuries or illnesses, should a young child get access to this product and consume it, there is a “risk of serious injury or death from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children,” stated the report shared by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission

Once you’ve secured your jar and requested your new child-resistant lid, you can continue finding the relief you need while having complete peace of mind.
