These Cuddly Black Cats Are Way Too Adorable to Be Unlucky
Black cats have long been associated with spooky myths, such as bad luck, negative omens, and even witchcraft. Ever heard the superstition, “Don’t let a black cat cross your path”? It’s nothing new, but it’s just as ridiculous as it’s always been.
According to International Cat Care, this unfortunate connection traces its roots all the way back to medieval Europe and America. During that time, cats in general were seen as evil due to their nocturnal nature, but black cats had arguably the worst reputation due to their dark shade, which was a symbol of danger back then. But in modern times, anyone who’s ever owned or loved a black cat knows that’s all just a bunch of hooey. Just take one look at the precious fur baby below — any cat owner would be lucky to take this kitty home.

Unfortunately, old myths die hard, and some folks out there are still hesitant to adopt or buy a black cat nowadays. In recent years, a few feline fans have pondered whether the popularity of social media plays a role in potential owners turning up their noses at black cats in favor of ones in other shades.

Christine Bayka, who owns a cat re-homing center in England, told Metro.co.uk that the rejection of black cats has become much more widespread over the years. She said: “It’s worse now because black cats don’t show up in selfies. Now everybody wants to take selfies and put them on Facebook. It’s a very narcissistic use of social media.”

Well, if potential owners really think that, then all we have to say is this: We’ll gladly cuddle with these so-called “unlucky” and “non-photogenic” cats any day — every last one of them!
First of all, not only are black cats just as deserving of love as all the other cats, but the precious fur babies without a home are especially in dire need of companionship and affection.

Secondly, if you want to get into superstitions, it’s worth noting that in some cultures — like in Japan, for instance — black cats are seen as a sign of good luck. And that thing about a black cat crossing your path? In Germany, it depends on which direction it passes to find out what luck it will supposedly bring you. It’s all about perspective.

Finally, not that it should matter in the least bit, but black cats can be rather photogenic depending on the background of the image, not to mention the lighting of the picture. Perhaps some people simply need to brush up on their photography skills?
