Adorable Animal Noses That’ll Make You Want to ‘Boop the Snoot’

If you’ve never heard the phrase “boop the snoot,” we have an adorable show in store for you — especially if you’re an animal lover. As the phrase implies, this practice involves lightly touching or tapping noses in a sweet, affectionate way. In this case, the noses in question belong to some seriously cute animals. Watch the video above to see some of the most boopable snoots on the internet today.

Where did ‘boop the snoot’ come from?

Like many phrases of popular internet slang, it’s hard to trace back to the exact moment in time when the first person said, “Boop the snoot.” But what we do know is that the adorable idea has been in the works for a long time coming. The website Know Your Meme traces the sound effect back to TV shows and movies of the 1990s, such as the film Dogma. That said, the actual definition of “boop” — unrelated to the cartoon character Betty — was not readily available online until the early 2000s.

The word slowly but surely grew in popularity, especially when people began to feature it in the context of sweetly tapping animal heads or noses. Today, in the 2010s, boopable snoots are featured fairly regularly in memes, photos, and videos on social media networks and viral news websites like Buzzfeed. Unsurprisingly, the star of the “boop the snoot” show has usually been an animal — often a cute puppy or kitten.

We personally love all adorable animal noses across species, not just domesticated ones; however, we would not recommend booping a wild animal’s snoot, no matter how tempting it may be. We imagine they’d react quite differently than that loyal pup you’ve owned for years! That said, it’s still a nice stress release to sit back, relax, and enjoy a show of a wide variety of animal snoots that we only wish we could boop.
